Description: Restaurant Eve has one intention: to bring everything together in perfect harmony-ingredients, cooking techniques, presentation, and that ephemeral, indescribable characteristic that we call soulfulness. We purchase from farms that share our values of quality and sustainability, and showcase the best hand-fed, farm-raised, organically grown bounty Virginia and the surrounding countryside have to offer. Herbs and fruits are gathered from our own garden and everything on our menu has a story, every ingredient is special. From the various offerings of house-made products (which include 7-9 various breads baked daily and artisanal cheeses); to the roster of craft cocktails, by cocktail authority Todd Thrasher; to our carefully chosen ingredients, everything signals a seriousness and reverence for the farmers, crafters, and all the culinary professionals who wish to bring you beautiful food. Restaurant Eve, named after the husband and wife duo's first child, is located in Old Town, Alexandria, listed by many travel sites as one of the most romantic towns in America, 10 minutes from Washington DC, Restaurant Eve is housed in a late 1800's historic warehouse that has been converted into a charming and sophisticated destination. The cobblestone path leading to the restaurant's entrance is lined with candles that set the tone of what is to come. Inside, the space is simultaneously stylish, cozy and refined-a place where special occasions are fondly remembered.

“Very nice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2007

The location and space is wonderful. The bar is very cool and the bartenders are real professionals.

We ate in the Bistro. We had a wonderful table in the atrium near the fireplace. The hostesses were friendly. Our server was helpful but not overbearing. We utilized the Sommelier and he offered excellent advice. The rest of the staff was efficient (example: when you rise to go to the facilities, the first person to pass will refold your napkin, or remove crumbs.)

The food was light and creative. I found it to be reasonably priced for this area.

I would (and have) recommend Eve to a friend.

“Nice evening”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2007

My husband and had a lovely evening at Restaurant Eve. Our waiter was very attentive yet unobtrusive. Our bread plates were continually replenished with warm bread, as were our drinks. The food was very good, although I wouldn't say it was great - I had the ribeye. A nice touch was the warm cream served with coffee. The dessert was fabulous.

My only complaint (and what prevented me from giving this restaurant five stars) was that we were in a table for two that was placed very very close and in between two other tables. It was impossible to have a private conversation because the next table was no more than a foot away. It was like we were dining with the parties on either side of us. For the price we paid for our meal, I think we deserve to have more space than this. I understand the restaurant may be trying to maximize its profits by adding another table to an already tight space, but really they should remove this table and let the guests enjoy some privacy.

Other than that, we will come back to this restaurant again - but we will definitely request a table without unwanted dinner companions. (There are many tables that would have given us some privacy.)

“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2007

I have dined at Restaurant Eve several times. It's definitely one of my favorites!

It's very difficult to get reservations so you should definitely make them a few weeks in advance. Service is always exceptional! And the food is amazing!

This restaurant has all the makings of a 4-star restaurant WITHOUT the stiff, formal feel - Very inviting!

I've eaten in the Tasting Room 4 times and the Bistro 3 times. Even having cocktails in the Lounge area is a pleasant experience! The bartenders are engaging. And best of all - entire place is non-smoking!

Always a pleasure. I'll definitely be returning to the Tasting Room as soon as my schedule allows!

“A Real Disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2007

Lack of attentive service, pretention, & an "I don't care" attitude ruined an Eve's Tasting Room evening with friends to celebrate anniversaries/birthdays. Everything was off: timing, replenishment, staff interest. Our server lost her place in rote memorized menu descriptions and mixed up orders. Two of the five courses came to the table incomplete; we watched as our server searched for the missing entrees. We were seated next to a supply closet; it was very distracting as the wait staff continually opened /closed the door, bumping into our table or just interrupting our conversation with each pass. The staff shouldn’t be the center of attention, but the group at Eve's was a constant distraction. Worst of all, our entire evening was tainted with staff attitude -- like we should feel privileged to be allowed in Eve's door! I have eaten at the best (Jean Georges, Daniel, & Bouley in NYC; Citronelle and the Inn at Little Washington in this area. Now, those are rarefied atmospheres, but the wait staff doesn't cop an attitude about it! On the way out, the restaurant greeter asked about our experience. One of our group said the evening was a real disappointment. The greeter made no comment & walked away. Oh yeah, almost forgot -- the food was good, but that's certainly not what we will remember about the evening. Our last visit.

We ate in the Tasting Room recently, and it was amazing! As good if not better then The Inn at Little Washington and Meastro. A must for special night!!
