Description: Restaurant Eve has one intention: to bring everything together in perfect harmony-ingredients, cooking techniques, presentation, and that ephemeral, indescribable characteristic that we call soulfulness. We purchase from farms that share our values of quality and sustainability, and showcase the best hand-fed, farm-raised, organically grown bounty Virginia and the surrounding countryside have to offer. Herbs and fruits are gathered from our own garden and everything on our menu has a story, every ingredient is special. From the various offerings of house-made products (which include 7-9 various breads baked daily and artisanal cheeses); to the roster of craft cocktails, by cocktail authority Todd Thrasher; to our carefully chosen ingredients, everything signals a seriousness and reverence for the farmers, crafters, and all the culinary professionals who wish to bring you beautiful food. Restaurant Eve, named after the husband and wife duo's first child, is located in Old Town, Alexandria, listed by many travel sites as one of the most romantic towns in America, 10 minutes from Washington DC, Restaurant Eve is housed in a late 1800's historic warehouse that has been converted into a charming and sophisticated destination. The cobblestone path leading to the restaurant's entrance is lined with candles that set the tone of what is to come. Inside, the space is simultaneously stylish, cozy and refined-a place where special occasions are fondly remembered.

“Top restaurant with innovative food choices - borderline 5”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

This is a top end restaurant with prices to match the exceptional food. We have eaten here twice in the main restaurant and latterly in the bistro in a side room overlooking the garden. The food is different with a strong focus on local produce and seasonal vegetables. The menu can at times be difficult to choose from with unusual combinations especially for a picky eater. But you go to this type of restaurant to see just how top chefs take simple ingredients and make something sublime out of them. I would't normally select a chick pea pancake but it was superb and the pork was equally outstanding. We have never taken the tasting menu but the portions sizes from the main menu were good for us. The wine list is also good with affordable great wines. My sense is that depending on personal food preference this could be one person's sublime eating experience while another might be underwhelmed. This and value for money is the reason for rating this 4 rather than 5.

But Eve is definitely a restaurant I would recommend and return to. It is however busy and because we wanted to eat on my Birthday we had to take a 6.15 reservation which is to my taste a little too early for fine dining. When booking we were also committed to a $200 minimum fee for a no show. This is new to me in the states (but did happen for the Eiffel tower restaurant in Europe) and may put some people off.

“A Treat!”

We had the pleasure to dine at Eve this past weekend, and it was an amazing experience. The tasting room is a place where every foodie needs to be in this town!

“Underwhelming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

Dined here as a group of seven one Friday evening in March. Food was beautifully prepared and creatively presented. Service was competent but at times a little inattentive – it took an age to get the wine ordered, and another age to get it served. We had the five course tasting menu and unfortunately the most abiding memory was the size of the portions – and not in a good way. We are not particularly big eaters, and have been fortunate enough to dine in some great restaurants around the world: these were the smallest portions we had ever seen. Coming from Europe, where that whole nouveau cuisine thing has been and gone, this was a bit of an eighties flash back: when the vegetable accompaniment to a thimble sized piece of pork consists of three Brussels sprout leaves, you’ve got a problem….

“Excellent service, very good, not great, food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013 via mobile

Third visit here, and very good overall. Our server was excellent -- personable without being intrusive. Food was very good, though my rib eye was a bit on the small side. Appetizer may have been the best part, and dessert was delicious. First time in their side room, which I would specifically not request in the future. Felt a bit banished there, so to speak. Also, prices are a little high, but I would return again.

“Very Disappointing 60th Birthday Celebration in the Tasting Room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Uninspired, perfunctory service. Food good, but no "Wow." Wine pairing not up to price. When my daughter asked to confer with the sommelier for his recommendation since she was not having the wine pairing option, our principal waitperson responded "Oh, just pick what you think you would like from our list of single wines here." Amazing for a restaurant with these pretensions! When I called the next morning to discuss my disappointment over the dining experience with Restaurant Eve's manager, I was told he was not in and "to call back later." To me, this response, after I had given my name and had explained that I wanted to speak with the manager about my experience the previous evening, summed up the general lack of professionalism.
