“Very tasty...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

Typical pub atmosphere…however the food was great. I had the crab cake sandwich which had lots of chunks of crab with a side of tangy coleslaw. My hubby had a swordfish sandwich with sliced hard boiled egg, fresee, roasted pepper and a light dressing, he said it was delicious. Prices reasonable. Treated ourselves to dessert, the pastry chef special of the day …fudgy chocolate cake with a vanilla buttercream frosting, a reat treat! Would definitely stop in again.

“Great for the Group”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2014

When we lived in Alexandria 20 years ago, this was in our regular rotation of favorite night spots with dependable local food and a pleasant atmosphere. Now as visitors back to the area we were pleased to find Union Street still a good choice for dinner – not extraordinary, but solid.

We were able to get a last minute reservation for 8 on a Saturday night – rare in the Washington area. Our upstairs seating was perfect for our reunion of old friends – quiet enough to enjoy the conversation, while still a lively atmosphere. If you tend to chill easy, don’t sit by the window – drafts are a problem in this venue.

Our food ran the gamut: The burger and crabcake were delicious. Fried chicken and entrée salads spot on. The portion of shrimp gumbo was savory and generous. We were disappointed by the Po Boy (rubbery oysters) and the overpriced lobster and shrimp grits feature that was cold and skimpy. Dessert was a disappointment but there’s plenty of ice cream down the street. Honestly, the friendly, attentive service compensated for shortfalls in the food. Our waitress even joined our discussion about Krispy Kreme donuts and presented us with a coupon for the free dozen she couldn’t enjoy herself!

“You gotta take the good with bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014 via mobile

Wonderful setting, great service. Mr M ordered oysters and crab bisque. Presentation was nice and said flavor was good. Oysters were plump! I ordered a small Caesar and fish/chips. What a mess. Both courses were completely void of flavor and appeal. Only had a few bites of each. Enjoyed the atmosphere.

“Younger crowd”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

If you are Hungary for a burger, it's fine. Just stay in the dining room. If looking for a young rowdy crowd, head for the bar

“Late Lunch-Wonderful Surroundings-Good Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

After a trip on the Potomac Water Taxi, we walked around Old Town, AX, trying to find a place to get something for a late light lunch. We found ourselves at the Union Street Public House and decided to give it a try. We were led upstairs to the 3rd floor and from there had a great view of the street below. We started with their soup of the day, a delicious vegetable beef concoction (ground beef with chili overtones), had 2 Martini's and Cosmo's, a Wedge salad (wonderful) and one MD crabcake to share. The crabcake wasn't anything special, but then again, we are from a region where we enjoy crabs most of the year. Our server was delightful and the attractive surroundings, soup, and drinks enough to relax us into storming the very crowded King Street and trolley ride home. Overall, a very good late lunch, albeit a bit expensive ($15 for the crabcake and $10 for the drinks each).
