“Historic Venue with Good Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

This is quite a nice, relaxed restaurant, with an historic menu to match the site. It's best to make reservations, because they sometimes host tour groups. The one thing I wish they had is draft beer. They do have microbrews in bottles.

“Food and location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

Enjoyed the food and historic location. This where George Washington siad farewell to his troops prior to becoming President.

“A convenient history experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

Eating at Gadsby's is a fun, different way to get a slice of Virginia history. The building has great character, and if you have kids, it is great way to spark some discussion of George Washington and about how people lived in the past. The service is good and the food is fine. It is not fantastic, but I would say it is better in both quality and variety than some other tourist places of this type. Brunch is really pretty good and is a great way to start a site-seeing day. It is a pretty typical menu--I'd compare it to most hotel menus, with some additions like peanut soup (which is delicious). There is plenty of free, street parking nearby. From Gadsby's, you can head out into Alexandria by foot. You can take the free transportation down King Street to the Masonic Temple or drive a reasonably short distance to Mt. Vernon. If you are not that into history, you can also catch the water taxi to the National Harbor for shopping and other fun stuff.

“Good Brunch for the price and atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

This place was really cool. Especially if you like older colonial homes that have been partially converted to, in this case, a restaurant. It feels like you're a guest in someone's home. If you're into those types of places - this is for you. The Brunch menu was just big enough to offer variety yet not overwhelm you. They also offered specials. The prices were pretty good for an old town spot. If you like drinks that are similar to Irish coffees, then you must try Martha's remedy. It's coffee, cocoa, brandy and legitimate homemade whip cream. It was delicious. I had the eggs benedict. I've had better but I would still consider them good. They serve up breakfast potatoes that are a great change up to home fries. Our waitress was very friendly and had a great attitude when there was a mix up with one of the orders. Overall, a great experience. I would definitely return.

“Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

Overall, very average tourist trap type of food. It's cool to eat somewhere that has a bit of history. Building itself is very old but has great character. Unfortunately I didn't think the rickety chairs contributed to that feeling since they just felt cheap.
