“A genuine piece of France in Old Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2008

Truly a piece of France transported right in the middle of Old Town. Authentic and VERY tasty cuisine, all unquestionably homemade by someone who loves his food. We enjoyed the pate and calamari for appetizers, the veal provencale and scallops for mains, and the fresh tarte framboise and coffee for dessert. It's not a budget conscious choice, but you cal always go for lunch, save money and still get the same outstanding food and service. We'll be going back.

Oh, and whoever said it was "out of the way" from the rest of the shops and restaurants in Old Town mischaracterizes the location. There are shops and restaurants up and down King Street. If you are talking about the one block near the water that is chock full of restaurants, this is about 4-5 easily walkable blocks away.

“Cozy Little Place with Wonderful Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2008

I went to this place several times when I lived in the area and have never been disappointed. It is very authentic. (It has been run by a French family for over ten years.) It is a tiny place, so reservations are necessary for dinner. At lunch, reservations are unnecessary. They are closed after 2:00 pm until dinnertime. The lunch specials change daily. All of the fish dishes are excellent. The appetizers are actually appetizer size, so you can try more than just the entree. They have a limited but very good wine selection. Veal and lamb is featured heavily in the dinner menu. This place has very romantic ambience (reminds me of the south of France) and is very small and intimate, so would be a good place for a date or special occasion. The menu is pricey, but worth it.

This place is located right in the middle of historic Old Town which adds to the romantic atmosphere. There is a tiny outdoor patio where they supposedly allow dogs to dine, but I have never seen any there. It may be difficult to find on-street parking. I would recommend taking a taxi if you are going in the evening.

“Glad we tried it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2008

We absolutely loved this place! It's kind out of the way from the rest of the shops and restaurants in Alexandria, and boy oh boy is it tiny inside. Upon walking in the restaurant for the first time, you suddenly feel like everyone who's sitting down is looking at you. I think the place can hold up to 40, maybe 45 people max. It's definitely cozy, but if you don't like sitting RIGHT next to people, I wouldn't recommend the place.

The food is delicious. We started out with the 3 soup trio and were happy with 2 out of the 3. My fiancee thought the cucumber/mint was little overpowering. I started with the warm spinach salad with goat cheese. It was good; not the greatest, but the goat cheese was yummy.

For dinner, I had the Chicken Dijon which was fantastic. The sauce that it came with was heavenly. I seriously could have eaten it without almost anything. My fiancee didn't think it had enough Dijon mustard, where for it was perfect. It came with potatoes au gratin, which were also yummy. For his entree, my fiancee got Frog Legs, which he had never tried before. Although he said they were yummy, it said he would probably wouldn't order them again, since there were quite a lot of work to dig the actual meat out of them, for not a lot of food.

For desert, I had their chocolate mouse cake, which came with a little raspberry on top. It was great; not too heavy or sweet. My finacee had one of their specials which was a poached pear in red wine sauce, with basil cilantro, and mint ice cream. I never knew they even made those kind of ice creams before, but except for the cilantro, the other two were yummy.

We would definitely go back to this place if we ever find ourselves in Alexandra again.
