“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014 via mobile

Had a really nice lunch today at Le Refuge. Very good soups, sautéed calamari and foie gras. All of our favorite French foods, as well as a really nice bottle of white Bordeaux. The server had been with the restaurant for 18 years and was excellent. Great French decor. The only thing I wish the owners would do is get better bread. It was poor quality, soft crust American style bread that really wasn't worthy of the restaurant. It was disappointing when I had to eat it with the foie gras.

“Traditional French food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

Nothing trendy here - it's a throwback to traditional French country cooking. An intimate space in Old Town, highly decorated, it's a lovely spot for a quiet dinner. The cooking is pretty old-style: lots of rich sauces, cheese and spices. A duck liver mousse was gently flavored. Bouillabaise had a good assortment of fresh seafood and interesting spicing. Pork tenderloin with Roquefort sauce was very tender and flavorful. Creme brulee had a fine, hard crust. A few minor items: the bread was quite plain white. The wine list was decent, but wine glasses were small. If you're looking for French cuisine with a modern flair, this is probably not your place, but if you want an intimate dinner with well-prepared food, it's very good.

“Beautiful French Fare”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

Popped in here as we heard it was good from one of the folks in Tourist info.

It's wonderful little restaurant. Fantastic quality of food & the server was a very nice french lady.

Highly recommend going here, we certainly will be going back!

“Great Atmosphere and Food in One Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

The dining room is small but intimate with an eclectically decorated ambiance. The food was fantastic - and at a reasonable price. I enjoy French cuisine and this is one of the better meals I've had. Highly recommended!

“off night???”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

This is our favorite type of restaurant, small, intimate and charming. Le Refuge is all of this but the food and service were average at best. We do not live in the area and were looking forward to eating here while visiting Old Town.

Service: We had reservations for 8:00 on Friday in early June, and although there were several empty tables, we still felt rushed. The only word to describe our waitress was "efficient". She was there to take the order, serve the food and bring the bill.

Food: I had Leg of Lamb. It was "oversauced" and the presentation was like something you would find in a "mom and pop diner". Husband's Beef Wellington was better but not great. Salads and wines were good---but the sides tasted like they had been reheated.

Our bill: over $140.00 after tip----really?
