“History is full of surprises.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

A small group of Wounded Warriors and their spouses travelled from Ft Bragg to tour this location. Were we greeted and welcomed with open arms. Since Mt Vernon is privately owned, it was not affected by the government shut down like the National Park Service memorials. We received a delightful guided tour of the house and grounds. We were treated to a special opportunity to see/touch the tombs of George and Martha Washington. Not something that everyone is allowed to do.

“A Must See - True American History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

While in the DC area, my wife and I decided to visit the home of President Washington. It was definitely worth the visit. The history of his time at Mt. Vernon as presented by the tour guides, makes this a valuable stop while on your historic tour of our country. The grounds alone are worth seeing. I recommend a visit.

“Should be on your Bucket List”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

A visit to Mt Vernon should be on everyone's bucket list. There is so much to see that I wish that I would have had 2 days instead of 1. Spend a day exploring the estate and the next day looking at all the exhibits.

“Worth a look”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

Geo. Washington's Estate, while not as enjoyable as Monticello, is worth a look. The crowds were much larger than we had expected and the docents made it clear that meant they would hurry the tours through.

“Exceeded all expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

Our day long visit to Mt. Vernon far exceeded our expectations. There is so much to see there that more than one day could be spent there. The tour in the Mansion showed off its beautiful furnishings and architecture. The other buildings all had a history to them. We rented the audio tour which gave us so much more information that we could have ever found out on our own. That was well worth the additional $6.
We purchased our tickets there. This time of year is slower than most although there was a healthy crowd on a beautiful fall day. Washington's Presidential Library celebrated its opening so there were hundreds of invited guests for that. Unfortunately we did not have the time to visit it. There is a reasonably priced cafe on the grounds. The museum and education center had so much information and artifacts. The views are spectacular. We easily traveled by Metro and bus from downtown D.C. A "don't miss" attraction.
