Old Town is filled with lots of charm. The Waterfront has lots of restaurants and shopping. A great place to visit is the Torpedo Factory. The Art Center for Alexandria. Located right on the harbor you can meet artists who make jewelry, sculpture, paint or do photography.
you must go. shops and restaurants are cute, and you are on the potomac. lovely walk even in a chilly day. this is a very charming town.
If you're visiting the DC area, please make sure you take the time to visit the waterfront. There are so many vendors that set up during the spring and summer. Restaurants are pretty incredible. Alexandria makes it's best effort to do events that include locals and tourists alike. The Torpedo Factory is fun for the whole family, watching artists create their masterpieces. We really enjoy going down and seeing the guy with the parrots and the guy that does music out of crystal glasses. There is a balloon guy there that makes the kids all laugh.
Many restaurants to choose from, great walking neighborhood, local activities, and superb Saturday Farmer's Market!
The waterfront is a wonderful area. The boats docked are very colorful. The area has plenty of seating so you can just sit and reflect by the water.
