While the hotel claims to be just a few blocks away from the Metro, it seemed to take a considerable amount of time to walk to the hotel from the King Street Metro Station. (It is close, but not exactly a stone's throw away.) [Caveat: I took the metro from Ronald Reagan International Airport, which is just a few stops away. I may have felt that it was far away because I was lugging a lot of stuff. However, the hotel does have a complimentary shuttle (a fact which I was unaware of at the time -- see below).]
All that said, the hotel stay was okay, but not stellar. The room had a very noisy ventilation system (heating/cooling). I understand that the hotel used to be an apartment building and so maybe this was a result of the conversion. Also, the elevator seemed very large -- and, even a bit creepy.
The hotel room was clean. It was, more correctly, a suite with the standard layout of a Residence Inn hotel "room." The floor was quiet and people were nice.
There is complimentary Internet access and printing in the lobby. What is nice about it is that it is secure -- after you log off, all traces of your session are deleted. This was important to me because I had checked my personal e-mail account and, more importantly, I had accessed information using my workplace's secure network portal.
There was a complimentary shuttle which went to and from the King Street Metro station (which I didn't know about when I first came to the hotel -- had I known, I would have called the hotel and requested the shuttle....). Also, a Whole Foods store is just two blocks down the street (open until 10PM which is nice, but also rather expensive).
The front desk people didn't always answer the phone and they were somewhat helpful in general, but the amount of assistance you get would depend upon who you talked to.
This hotel is located in the "Old Town" section of Alexandria and it is in a safe and also a quiet location. It is "convenient" (especially if you drive) to restaurants and other attractions in Old Town, Alexandria.
