“Great location and setting for families!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

We enjoyed our 2 night stay here July 21 & 22. The gentlemen at the front desk were super friendly and accommodating in answering our questions. This hotel is only about 2 blocks at the most from the metro - which is very easy to use when travelling into DC. The location of the hotel is also very close to all the shops and restaurants on King St - within walking distance or a very short drive. The breakfast area was huge and had a nice variety. I know it's not very healthy, but I was happy to have access to Diet Pepsi on my way out the door in the morning :) This area was crowded, but the staff did a great job keeping up with the crowd.

As always, when travelling with kids, it's nice to have the separate bedroom and 2 TVs for additional space. The shower is separate from the toilet, which is nice. If I had any minor complaint at all, which I can't call a complaint really, it would be that the bathroom sink area is a little small - I couldn't get ready at the same time my husband was shaving. But, that is a minor detail and wouldn't prevent me from staying again.

Overall great stay!

This was our first stay at a Residence Inn. We will definitely come back! Where to start?? They made traveling with our children (ages 6 and 8) so easy. They were SUPER accommodating and very helpful with the weird stuff that comes up when you travel with kids. While the whole staff was friendly and professional, Mike Wilson went above and beyond. From helping us up to our room with with whiny, rambunctious kids in tow, to talking baseball with us and helping us navigate our way to Nationals Stadium, he enhanced our stay in so many ways! The shuttle was a life saver in the brutal heat. Although the metro is a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel, it was so much easier with the kids to just take the convenient shuttle and save our kids' legs for DC proper. The Whole Foods was one block away and the various buffets there made meals simple and healthy. The breakfast buffet at the hotel was the best "free" hotel breakfast I have ever had. Good variety and plenty of it all. My kids both found plenty to eat--even my picky eater. The staff works really hard to keep things neat and orderly in the midst of the breakfast rush. The evening social was also really nice--beer and wine in real glasses--and our kids basically ate dinner: meatball subs one night, nachos another--it is not "high class" fare but generous portions and fine for what it is.
FYI:
**The pool is smallish and all one depth (4 ft-ish) completely satisfactory for our kids but for older kids, adults might feel too small? Also hours during week are am until 10 and evenings 4-9 only. Weekends are all day.
**The pullout couch was fine for my 8-year-old, but would probably be uncomfortable for a full sized person
We were in a 1 bedroom suite for a great rate--$130 a night. In room climate control was great. The hotel was 100% full and we were on the 4th floor and we didn't here a peep from any other rooms when we were in our room. Location was awesome for us--city was a short metro ride away but removed from the city hustle and bustle and plenty to do on King street.
Overall, we would recommend this spot to anyone and we will be back!!

Room Tip: We were in 417 and it was great

Thank you for the wonderful review! I love the title...glad it was a home run for you guys. It was a pleasure to get to know you all. The kids are great! I hope you got to see all that you wanted. I am sorry the Mets lost the one game you were able to see! We hope to see you again in Alexandria...and hope the rest of the vacation was as memorable. Have a great summer and good luck with the school year!

Spent 6 days touring DC. Stayed in Penn Quarter area downtown DC last year but opted to stay further out near the Metro to save $$$. Not only got a cheaper hotel bill, but also received tons more aminities staying at the Residence Inn on Duke St.. 1st included in price, received a huge breakfast buffet. Stocking up there meant we could eat an awesome late lunch/ early dinner at one of DC's awesome new resturants. The cleaning staff was awesome. We had a room with a kitchenette that had, sink, microwave and fridge. A Whole Foods Market is just a couple blocks up the street too. Found it useful to pay the $18 a day to leave car in parking garage located up against hotel. Therefore very easy to get car out and travel 20 min. away to Mount Vernon. A hotel's shuttle service was offered free of charge within the town. However, just a couple blocks away from hotel is the King St. Metro line junction and the free Trolley car line that takes you up and down the historical King St. with its many diverse shops and great atmospher. Definitely I will stay at this hotel everytime I"m in DC! If this review sounds too good to be true and you might think I am with this hotel. Nope. Just a tickled pink, finally back home traveler.

I was only here for one night and got to the hotel after seven. The front desk folks were great in giving me some directions and offered the shuttle to get me to old down. I was looking for pizza and they pointed me in the direction of a couple of places. The parking was easy to access and I had no issue parking close. Old town is not a long walk from the hotel. I'd recommend staying here as it meets all of the high standards Marriott demands. Great value for the DC area as well.

Room Tip: Picked a high room facing Old Town Alexandria.

We stayed here last weekend for a friend's wedding at the George Washington Masonic Memorial which is less than a mile away. The location is great for exploring Old Town Alexandria. King Street is an easy two block walk from the hotel; it's quite a walk to the water, but there's a trolley/shuttle that is continuously running up and down King Street. We easily walked to dinner and shopping, and just enjoyed exploring the area.

The hotel staff was especially helpful, and the accommodations at the hotel were good. The room, as with other Residence Inns, included a kitchenette, complete with a full-size refrigerator which was particularly helpful for keeping drinks cold during the recent 100+ degree weather. There's also a Whole Foods nearby for groceries. The breakfast spread was one of the largest I've seen at a Residence Inn...lots of hot and cold choices, and plenty of seating. We also took advantage of the pool during our stay which was staffed by a lifeguard (always a good thing!). Overall, we had a great stay during our quick trip to Alexandria.

What a pleasant experience! The hotel had top notch amenities. A tasty and bountiful breakfast buffet. A free shuttle to take us to places of interest. Excellent location to the city's free trolley, metro stops, and Amtrak. Very comfortable bed. All the comforts of home. We stayed a weekend, but it is perfect for long stays. Only $109 per night!

Room Tip: The suite has a separate bedroom and a sleep sofa. Very comfortable for a family of 4.

Wanted to stay close to our daughter who lives in Alexandria. Very nice and clean hotel. The room have a full kitchen, living area (which we didn't need or use) and separate bedroom. Great for long term stays! The bedroom was little small but since you pretty much just sleep in it, it was okay. Very comfortable bed. Note: They only have queen size beds!

Room Tip: All rooms only have a queen size bed, but also a pull out couch. If you are looking for a king, you...
