“Few days in DC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

Stayed with family of four and met my brother and his family at the hotel. Typical Hilton, nicely appointed and well maintained. Convenient to the Metro, which unfortunately was undergoing some repair work so shuttle buses were in use. Easy enough to work around. The King Street Trolley stoppped adjcent to or across the street from the hotel. If you stay here, use the trolley. It's free and you can hop on or off at every other street. It travels from the Metro to the waterfront.

Our room was nice, clean and overlooked King St. The room was surprisingly quiet, given the Metro and street noises below. The room was kept clean and neat while we were out. Check in and out was simple. Staff was courteous and polite. Wife is already talking about a trip without kids and we would probably stay here again.

Our only issue was the pool was closed. On arrival we were told it had been posted on the website, but I must have missed it (or it was posted after we had made reservations). Given our fmailes had six kids, we would probably have chosen the Embassy across the street. We were allowed to use the pool at the Embassy but it just wasn't as convenient given the cold temperatures.

I let the hotel know of our issue and the manager emailed and apologized in a very timely manner. Much appreciated.

This hotel is very convenient. If you are going to DC and plan to spend any time in Alexandria, stay here. It is on the blue-yellow line so you can connect with other lines on the Metro. With King Street out your door, restaurants, shops, ect are minutes away.

I stayed at this hotel twice within a 6-month timeframe, It was clean and safe (you need to swipe room key once you get on the elevator). the hotel has a few restaurants and a nice lounge/bar. Walking distance to nice shops in Old Town, minutes away from Washington D.C. The lobby is modern, but the rooms are too traditional in style

As a HHonors Gold member I stay in a fair number of Hilton properties. In my experience this is one of the classier Hilton Hotels -- not snobby, but there is an understated elegance to the hotel. It has a nice appearance, appealing decor, nicely appointed rooms with good amenities, and very helpful and courteous staff.

For Washington visitors who like/rely on the Metro for transportation, it couldn't be better; the station is a stone's throw (second base to home plate) from the front door of the hotel. For some guests, this is also the hotel's downfall since there is noise from the trains. If, however, you get a room facing away from King Street (that is, in the inside of the "L"), it's very quiet. The King Street station is two stops away from National Airport, so this is a convenient place to stay if proximity is important, and much more charm than the Crystal City offerings.

The bar and restaurant are very nice, with a good selection of food and drinks. However, there are a LOT of restaurants as you walk down King Street toward the river. Quite a few shops and boutiques as well.

Room Tip: No surprise: upper floors, other side of the hotel from the Metro station.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay at our hotel and for the Excellent review!

I am pleased to report that as of mid August 2013 all rooms that face the Metro Station have had sound proof windows installed! Now all the convenience of being 37 steps from the Metro - without any of the noise!

Thanks again for the opportunity to respond to your concerns. We hope to be of service to you again soon.

Sincerely,

I stayed at the Hilton and its was great hotel! The food was terrific. I had the pot roast and my wife had the salmon. Food portions were more than generous and not your ordinary hotel food! If you have any questions for the chefs you can walk up and ask , they are in the dining room Beautiful restaurant. and ask I will be back.

Room Tip: Get a room opposite of the metro

I met my husband here by taking Amtrak to the Alexandria train station, which is located adjacent to the Metro station, and is a micro-walk to the hotel. Was thrilled about the Starbucks in the lobby and while there was plenty of room to sit and relax in the lobby area, we were able to check into our room a little after noon thanks to the very pleasant front desk attendant. The room was clean, comfortable and well equipped with amenities. Luckily we did not have a room facing the Metro tracks so it was pretty quiet. We went into DC for the day and the location next to the Metro could not be better for that, especially with a young child. We also walked around Old Town Alexandria one morning, and while the hotel is a few blocks from most of the buzz, it wasn't a terrible walk. I'd choose this hotel again.

Room Tip: ask for one not facing metro tracks

I have been staying here at the same time every year for a number of years. I was very disappointed with this stay. As previous reviewers have stated, make sure your room is not overlooking the train/metro tracks-- it's very noisy, particularly in the evening and early morning. In addition to the train, they were working on the garage most of the day, and it was even noisier. I asked to be moved to another room, but the front desk told me they could not move me-- they told me to come down and work in the lobby! I ended up cutting my stay short and going to another hotel. I've had a good experience in the past-- not this year!

Other reviewers are correct regarding general location. It's a convenient walk through Old Town.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not adjacent to the metro tracks.

This hotel is a nice Hilton in a nice location. However, the convenience of being close to the Metro comes with a price. If you are a light sleeper, be warned that rooms on the side by the train track are very noisy. In addition to the Metro, Amtrak uses these tracks, and the trains plus their whistles are annoying, especially at night when you're trying to sleep. I would not stay there again unless I was promised a quieter room.

Room Tip: Avoid room 312
