We stayed at the Hampton Inn on our recent holiday to America from South Africa to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversay. We loved the hotel especially the good service offerd by Taurus the manager,he even planned a dinner for us at the The Chart House where we were really spoilt. The rooms were very comfortable and a fair size a falt screen TV would have been a bonus. It was also conveniently situated near the station and a bus to take you down to the Old Town which is very quaint. The only gripe I have is the crockery or lack of, it was polystyrene

We loved the location - Alexandria is very charming and a much better area to stay in than D.C. The hotel was very clean, comfortable beds and ample breakfast. It was relatively close to Kings station although it was not as close as other Trip Advisor writers implied. We went with our well traveled teenage kids and they were very satisfied.

Just got back from a weekend in Alexandria and DC. Loved the Hampton Inn. Very very clean hotel. Good location. close to the Metro which we used on Sat. We bought all day passes for $7.80 each and used it all day to get all over DC. Be carefull, some neighborhoods aren't the best. One time we got off, realized it wasn't a good place to be, and turned around and got right back on! Back to the hotel.... pool was nice. There is a lifeguard on duty. Pool towels are in big bins by the pool. Hotel staff was very nice. Breakfast was adaquet. Nothing great, but we could fill up before heading out for the day. Hotel was quiet at night, and not too close to Metro or anything else noisy. Used the free trolly which was fun, but crowded! Enjoyed a simple meal at Bugsy's, walked around King street, and came back to a restful night at the Hampton. I would definatley recommend this hotel to everyone!

Prior to making any reservations we always check this website for reviews. So I was a little confused by the one review that stated this hotel was not in a good location when all the others stated that is was. We decided to go with the majority and stay at this hotel. Our stay here was wonderful. It is less than 2 blocks from the King Street Metro and located in the historic district of Old Town Alexandria. There are several shops and restaurants all within walking distance. My guess is the other reviewer confused this Hampton Inn with the other Hampton Inn located on busy Richmond Highway. We enjoyed our stay. We were able to walk to the metro and make the short trip into DC. At night we enjoyed beautiful Old Town. We walked up and down the cobblestone sidewalks and window shopped. There were also many wonderful restaurants to choose from. The beds were also very comfortable and their complimentary hot breakfast was great. It is truly a great hotel in a great location and we will be back.

The best part about this hotel is the location. Its basically across the street from the Metro station giving you direct access into DC and surrounding areas. You are also right on King St. which is THE street to be on in Old Town Alexandria. You can easily walk to all the great shops and restaurants that Old Town has to offer.

We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. They only negative is that this hotel seemed a little "outdated" and does not look like it has been updated in a few years. No flat screen TVs, etc. But overall it was clean and a pleasant stay. I would stay here again.

This was a wonderful location to stay in for our recent trip to D.C. It is located very close to the metro station. It took us all of 5 minutes to walk from our hotel door to the station. It is far enough away from the train that you don't hear it from the hotel. (It took about 25 minutes to ride from the King Street Station to the Smithsonian Station and you can use the metro to get to just about anything you want to see in downtown D.C.) It is also next to one of the King Street Trolly stops so you can hop on that (they didn't seem to come by very often however) and ride all the way down King Street. The complimentary breakfast is pretty decent. Every morning there is one different hot item available and a bunch of other options as well. They provided us with yogurt, instant oatmeal, instant grits, bagels, croissants, bread (for toast), biscuits, several selections of cereal and two kinds of milk, fresh fruit, donuts, muffins, 3 kinds of coffee, several selections of juice and tea bags and a few other things every morning. Some of the hot items they served were waffles, eggs and sausage, stuff to make breakfast burritos....it was different each day. And if you don't like any of this, there is a Dunkin' Donuts next door (pretty sure thats where they get their donuts from each morning). The people working the breakfast area and the front desk are SUPER friendly and helpful with any questions you might have. The hotel is very clean and the lobby is warm and welcoming. Our room was nice, exactly what you would expect from a good quality mid-line hotel. We had a small problem with our air conditoner and maintenance was there to fix it within 5 minutes of our reporting it. The King Street/ Old Town area is great. Lots of shops, restaurants, ice cream parlors etc. I will definatly stay here again when we return.

My 13 year-old son and I spent 8 nights at the Hampton King Street Metro during Easter Week. We used it as our base for Washington DC activities.

The staff at this hotel was fantastic. They were extremely helpful and pleasant. The breakfast staff deserves extra mention for their friendliness and willingness to help.

The hotel is a four minute walk to the King Street Metro Station. The yellow and blue lines serve the King Street station. I would estimate the distance at about a quarter mile. There are a few streets to cross and your time to the Metro will depend on how you catch the lights. We walked from the Metro to the hotel with our luggage – very easy walk.

Alexandria runs a free trolley service on King Street. The nearest stop to the Hampton is in front of Dunkin Donuts, two doors from the hotel.

The rooms are smaller than your typical Hampton Inn, but are large enough. Our room had two double beds, a chair, a work desk and chair, a two drawer “dresser” and a TV cabinet with a drawer. The room did not a refrigerator or a microwave, although the microwave in the lobby is always available. The beds and pillows were comfortable. Having said all that, I do not know if I would want more than two people in this room for a week long stay. The size would make it hard.

The TV had the basic stations – unfortunately no local forecasts, weather on the Weather Channel. Remote was difficult to operate – like most no sleep feature. Also there was no audio on ESPN2 for the last 4 days of our stay. We reported it to the staff, but it was not fixed by our departure.

Housekeeping gets an early start here. Twice we came back from breakfast to find them in our room.

Bathroom had a good size vanity, a coffee maker and a hair dryer. The shower was comfortable – good water pressure, sufficient hot water and the shower head was high enough. There is no exhaust fan in the bathroom, so the mirror sfogs up quickly.

The one downside to this hotel is the elevators. Most Hamptons have slow elevators, these were very slow. We found ourselves using the stairs frequently.

There are no convenience stores or drug stores nearby for snacks, etc. Drinks at the vending machines are $2 each. Whole Foods is about a five block walk – get directions at the front desk.

We ate often in DC – we did eat dinner the first night at Theismann’s – right across from the Metro. Food was good, not cheap. We made two trips to Bugsy’s Pizza down near the river – good pizza – and good hockey on TV.

I would stay here again based on the price. The location convenient to the Metro is a plus, but you do end up spending about a half an hour to get to the City. We stayed near the Mall two years ago, but rates were just way too high this time. We probably spent about an hour a day getting to and from the Mall area. You need to decide how much your time is worth in comparing prices. For me, staying here made sense.
