“a wedding in Mt. Vernon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

We throughly enjoyed our stay in Old Town, Alexandria at the Hampton Inn. I am from this area and was here for a friends wedding, I usually stay at a friends b and b but needed to be in the Va area this time and we werent disapointed with this hotel. Its a quiet location, but really convient for seeing Old Town either walking or on the trolley. The breakfasts were good, coffee and tea available all day too. There was a business room with free computers, and the swimming pool was nice too. The staff were very helpful, room was more than adequate, good shower and hairdryer too. I had an accident with something leaking in my suitcase so had to use the washing machine and dryer-very satisfactory-$1.50 for the washer and 1.75 for the dryer, and the front desk is happy to change your dollars for quarters as thats all the machine takes. The convience of the metro is great too as we didnt need to rent a car on this trip. All in all a lovely holiday and wedding.

What a GREAT hotel. This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. So many amenities, such nice service, amazingly friendly staff, quiet location, free shuttle. We couldn't ask for a better time. We went to D.C. for the weekend and got there in less than 30 mins by public transportation. Free shuttle to the King St Metro station is 5 mins, metro is 10-15 mins to city center. Easy! We also did the Warrior Dash in Mechanicsville, MD. It was a simple hour ride there and back.

The beds and pillows are SO comfortable, everything is convenient/clean, elevators work great, shuttle is timely/runs often/driver is friendly. Front desk was friendly. There is a pool, free huge breakfast with the works, constant complimentary fresh coffee and fruit served. The hotel smells like clean laundry, parking is great, rooms are great, flat screen TVs, blow dryer, a/c is great, bathroom is a decent size.

I can go on for days about this hotel. A+++ - just great! Not to mention, the price was unbeatable.

This is a hotel with a great location on the quiet end of King Street. There is a free frequent trolley which will take you about a mile or so down King Street to the other end which has lots of restaurants, shops, etc. Typical Hampton, good breakfast, nice rooms and parking under the hotel ($15 per night, but worth it). Two blocks from the Metro to get to downtown Washington to all the Smithsonian museums, etc. Good place to stay if you are going to DC for all the attractions there.

Room Tip: Take the free trolley on King Street (just outside the hotel) to all the restaurants and shops in Al...

We stayed at this Hampton Inn one night while visiting our son in Washington DC. With this inn being so close to the metro, our son was able to commute from Washington with his bag, hike the short distance to our hotel and bunk with us the night before we all headed out to do some sightseeing the next day. That worked out fine. They have a small underground garage on-site, though all its spaces were marked for either handicapped or compact cars. Our mini-van didn't qualify for either but it didn't seem to matter.

There was a school group there that took over the lobby and the business center in the evening but we were out and about so we didn't care. In the morning I was finally able to get into the business center and check my Facebook to find the previous user, one of the students, forgot to sign out. I was tempted to change her status to married as a reminder not to do that. We all should remember to sign completely out of any personal websites we enter into while on public computers. Justing signing off the browser doesn't necessarily do that.

Although hotels on this end of King Street, like the Hampton Inn, like to tout the King Street Metro free trolley as a quick way to journey down to the more popular and tourist-oriented waterfront, it's nothing but quick. The trolley went by once with what seemed like a bunch of drivers on a training run. They weren't picking up any tourists. When we did finally get on, we were told that there was no standing allowed, a new rule just put into effect the past week. Since the bus got full quickly, we sailed by trolley stops where anxious waiting passengers tried to wave us down. You CAN walk King Street from the metro to the waterfront in about a half hour, which may well be quicker than waiting for and taking the trolley. Just sayin'.

Also the restaurants near the metro seemed quite interesting, including a wine tasting restaurant just a few doors down from our hotel. Very popular throughout the day and night.

If you want a hotel that is fairly reasonably priced, has on-site parking, and is close to the metro, this Hampton Inn would meet your requirements. They have the usual amenities including their hot entree breakfast, an outdoor pool in season, and a fitness room. No fridge or micro-wave though, at least not in our room.

This hotel is the perfect location with very friendly staff. Close to shops, restaurants and metro. Definitely don't get a car because you won't need.

This Hampton Inn is conveniently located on King Street in downtown Alexandria. Perfect for walking anywhere. The daily parking rate for the garage is $15 - but they are also within walking distance of the Metro. As per any Hampton, the bed was wonderful - the hot breakfast is great, and the overall appearance of the hotel is very nice. This is an older remodeled hotel though, and it's evident in the bathrooms - they are a touch dingier than one would trypically expect in a Hampton.
Also, the rooms face the street - which is awesome for the view and the feel of being downtown - very scenic. But, if you are on a lower level, you can expect street noise in the evening and early morning.
Overall - I believe this is one of the lower priced options in the King Street/Duke Street downtown area...and you still get all the conveniences. The garage is a challenge to find - I called the front desk and the staff was wonderful at giving me directions while I was driving.

Room Tip: Ask for as high as possible to reduce street noise. Avoid the 2nd floor - not only does is it the l...

Second time we have stayed here and it did not disappoint. Really friendly and helpful staff, Immaculate, high quality and very clean room. Great Breakfast which includes cooked eggs and a very large quality selection of fruits, yogurts and pastries. It is perfectly located on King Street which has tons of restaurants and shops. Close to the train to DC and you can park on the street across from hotel for free after 8:00. Great price would strongly recommend

Room Tip: King Street is great with wall to wall restaurants and shops, Train to DC is 2 blocks away and you...
