“Nice Hotel ... Very Accurate Reviews on Trip Advisor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2007

This hotel is directly across from a Metro station and about a 20 minute ride to Washington DC via Metro. It was very convenient to stay here and take the train to various attractions. The rooms were very clean and large. More than enough ample room for a family of 4. We have stayed at quite a few ES and this is one of the nicer ones. Very clean room. Very near many restaurants in Alexandria. The hotel was average price for the DC area and there is a charge of $16 per night for parking. If you fly into Regan National Airport, you do not need a car as the hotel is 2 metro stops from the airport. We are gold HH members and were on the 8th floor, where the rooms were recently renovated. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites while touring Washington D.C. It was a great location near a Metro stop with two lines leading directly, or almost directly, to the main tourist sites in the city. In the evening it is very close to many fine restaurants located in Old Town Alexandria. Would definitely stay here again.

For me, this comes very close to a perfect stay. We spent 5 days and this was the second time we had stayed there. It has been beautifully upgraded/redecorated since our visit two years ago, plus they have made the entire lobby/atrium NON-smoking. That was a HUGE improvement.

Our room was extremely quiet and being across from the Metro's King station is fantastically convenient. We used it every day. We had room service from their DUKE's restaurant and it was excellent. We had wonderful help from the clerks at the desk.

If large groups of kids visiting DC bother you, and waiting for the elevator, and breakfast, at peak traffic times, it could be a problem.
We had time, and were not negatively affected. It's just a lovely hotel, in a great, convenient, and interesting location.

It's not cheap, and there's a $16 parking fee, but compared to DC I think it's a good deal.

We stayed here in May as part of a trip taking in Washington DC, New York and Virginia.

We booked a two bedroom, two bathroom suite and found the hotel to be excellent in every way. The suite was very spacious and very clean. We also had a view of the metro and train station but didn't have any problems with noise, guess we are heavy sleepers! Breakfast each day was plentiful and although busy, area was kept clean and food was regularly refreshed. Also appreciated the traffic light notification in the room of possible busy times so we tended to work around that.

Also appreciated the Manager's reception each evening after a long day's walking and touring. Free drinks in any format are always welcome!

This was our first stay in an Embassy Suites, and I was very pleased with the standard of accommodation and our stay there. We had not problems at all and no attitude from anyone working there. We took advantage fo the courtesy mini bus to access other parts of Alexandria and found this to be available regularly and extremely useful.

I must echo some of the recent reviews. We stayed two nights at the tail-end of a family vacation. The hotel has an excellent location, and as an Hhonors Gold Member, I felt good about this hotel. We expected the normal friendly service and nice amenities that Embassy Suites usually offers, but we were disappointed. The front desk help during check in was borderline rude, as were the front desk personnel when we asked about the possibility of a late check out. The assistant manager redeemed the hotel somewhat when she gladly reimbursed my daughter for an out of order soda machine, but those good feelings were quickly dashed the next morning by an extremely rude porter. You have way too many options in this area to get stuck at this hotel.

We were so disappointed by this hotel. The only reason we booked there was because of the heated indoor pool and jacuzzi they were supposed to have remodeled and have ready the day we arrived. Their website even had a message about the pool being ready on the day we were checking in, and I even called the hotel the day before our arrival and was told the pool would be ready. It was not open the entire time we were there! When you walk around D.C. as much as a tourist wil do, then you want a place to soak the aches out of your muscles so you're ready to go the next day. It gets better----2 out of 3 elevators weren't working one day so the wait to catch an elevator was around 10-15 minutes because it's a big hotel, lots of people there. Then they said I wouldn't be able to hear the metro train at night, but I could, LOUD AND CLEAR, so we had to switch rooms to the side that didn't face the tracks. Then they were having the furniture replaced in all rooms on the floor below us and actually had hotel guests pack their things back in suitcases so the dressers could be switched out. They started this at 7:00 each morning and I could hear them moving the furniture across the floors, it was loud. I couldn't believe this was all happening in our 6 day stay. I would never recommend this place---stay somewhere else!

  • Liked — the separate bedroom
  • Disliked — It was the most messed up hotel I have ever stayed in.

We ended up at the Embassy Suites because our other accomodations fell through at the last minute. It was an acceptable big hotel.

As others have noted the location is excellent. Right across the street from the metro and amtrak and within walking distance of the heart of Old Town where all the shops and restaurants are.

Our third floor room was spacious.

We did have some problems though.

There was something that looked like rat poop on the sheets of the pull out bed. Guess they don't clean these sheets too often if no one uses them. We notified the front desk and it was cleaned promptly.

The room was noisy. You could totally here everything going on in the hallway and the nearby renovations of the pool started early.

There were a LOT of families staying here. I don't know if this was typical or just a result of our staying during the cherry blossom festival and easter weekend. But all the families made breakfast a complete madhouse. The food was pretty awful and so after the first day we didn't bother trying to brave the hordes taking advantage of the free food.

My tip: skip the free buffet and walk a few blocks to Misha's coffehouse which lives up to its slogan: the best coffee you'll ever have.
