“Excellent hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

Having stayed at many Embassy Suites hotels across the country, I have come to expect a high level of quality and service and this location did not disappoint. I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful Jackie, at the front desk, was in making our trip an enjoyable one. She really went above and beyond in helping my group of 13 students & adults get settled in comfortably. Although the hotel was fully booked with several very large groups, we were given side-by-side rooms as requested. We had ~4 children and 2 adults per room and Jackie made sure we had enough blankets, pillows and linens for everyone. Housekeeping delivered all of our items quickly. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. The cleaning service did a great job each day. Although the pool was small, the kids had a great time playing in it. Breakfast was hot and delicious. I had room service for dinner one night and the food was delivered quickly and was still hot. :o) As noted by the other reviewers, this hotel's location is fantastic. It's right across the street from the Metro and it was very nice to have such a short walk to and from each day. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again on a future trip to DC.

Positives: LOCATION...LOCATION..LOCATION...this place is outstanding. Right outside the Metro and easy access to King Street, where all the fun is! Used the Metro for our trips into Washington DC, easy access to all the sites including Arlington Cemetery in VA. The rooms are CLEAN and spacious. The staff is courteous and very knowledgeable. The breakfast spread and offerings were amazing. Negatives: The major drawback was that our original room was not available because it was given to someone else. We were given two rooms to make up the error. Traveling with my husband, 20 year old son and 10 year son, being split into two rooms was an inconvenience. This was to be a family vacation and being across the hall from each other did split the family up, causing a problem one night when the little one did not feel good and wanted mom. I feel that we should have been compensated in some way for the error, since the original room was unavailable and since it was no fault of ours, otherwise a pleasant experience. When booking, I was led to believe that the balcony was offering a view of DC but this was not the case. Lastly, the parking garage is very tight for minivans.

Room Tip: Room on inside walls are quieter than rooms on the outside with street traffic.

I think this place is the best Embassy Suites I have ever stayed. Clean and amazing service. It is right across from the train station so easy access to DC. Also right off of King Street so easy strolling in the heart of Alexandria. Great place - would totally come back here again.

As far as hotels go this place doesn't really stand out particularly, but if you're coming to Alexandria and want to be sure of what you're getting then this Embassy Suites ticks a lot of the boxes. It's located just opposite a metro station and there are always cabs right outside. It's just past the main strip that heads down to the waterfront so expect a good 20 minute walk if you want to get to the river. There are plenty of bars to stop off at in the evening though and in the daytime there's a free old time trolley that takes you down there from around the corner.

Given it's an all suites hotel the place was always full of school kids on a trip to visit the capital. In fact it was usually over run with them while I was there although they mostly seemed well behaved. The hotel looks like it's just starting to show some signs of wear around the edges but you have to look to see them and the place is pretty spotless. The staff are very attentive and can't go out of their way enough to help, even if you have particular requests. Parking is a crazy $26 per night but that's about average for this area and there's no long term on street parking. The breakfast is included but is a very basic buffet style affair although the omelette station is very good and has more options than the standard buffet that's laid out. The bar closes at about 23:00 which I thought a bit odd, even when there were guests still hovering around drinking. If you don't fancy eating at the restaurant and don't want to eat out, the hotel are happy for you to order pizza delivery which is nice.

Other stuff:
Room number 646
Tea making facilities in room - Yes
Toiletries - Yes
TV channels - Standard cable channels
In room safe - No but there's a safety deposit style system at reception. The two key system where people might stash their diamonds!
Internet - Wi-fi in the bar and reception area is free but I could still pick it up on the 6th floor.

I thought that this Embassy Suites is old and not up to the normal standard of a Embassy Suites! It is a great area BUT needs improvement! I was VERY disappointed in the Manager's Reception. We stayed there on a Thursday through Monday. Much better food was served on the Sunday night then on the other nights!!! On the other nights you got chips, dip and popcorn. Sunday night we received raw veggies, three types of cheese, two types of dip and large ptetzels. Also when you stay on the special floor people from other floors should not have access to this floor including coming and going up and down the stairs!! Slam, slam of the doors also. Work needs to be done there. People will never think to NOT slam the door so it is up to the hotel. Y

Great location for Metro, cabs, and King Street Trolley (all right across the street). Good place for families with a great free breakfast. Generally quiet and comfortable. Very cordial, helpful staff. We have stayed at this hotel at least four times when bringing grandchildren for sightseeing in Washington, D.C., and I have stayed here 2-3 times when on business in the area. Much prefer staying in Alexandria, rather than D.C.
