“Good location but bathrooms need to be remodeled”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

Great location. Rooms were ok. But the bathrooms were in need of serious repair and renovation. VERY low toilets, shower faucet coming out of wall, grout needed replacing, wood rotting around sink and the new towels NEVER seemed dry. Always felt damp and most of them were old with yellowish stains on them.

Thank you for your review. Although we are anticipating a case goods update at the end of 2013, and are looking forward to a fresh new look, I am very concerned that the maintenance issues in your suite, were not taken care of by our staff, prior to your arrival. Should you be inclined to, I would appreciate speaking with you directly. Please reach out to me. Best Regards…MaryAnne Russell General Manager

This hotel is very clean and conveniently located near transportation and Old Town. The free trolley is handy especially since parking is very expensive and not worth renting a car. Manager's reception is OK but could be improved but breakfast is very good.

We stayed at this facility May 30-June 2nd, for a sightseeing trip to D.C.

First and foremost, the staff was EXCELLENT. Very pleasant and helpful - everyone. Front desk, cleaning staff, managers, food service, hotel shop employees, etc. Good customer service keeps folks coming back.

Other positives: comfortable and clean suite, great free breakfast, awesome access to the Metro, located in beautiful Alexandria, and an overall nice ambiance in and surrounding the hotel.

Parking is definately a challenge in the underground garage (small spaces). However, this is no reflection on the hotel itself, only that parking is limited in Alexandria. There is a charge for parking, however, the prices for lodging are very reasonable. Also...this is a high-end metropolitian area...I would expect to pay for parking.

Everyone in our party was so pleased with the hotel. Thanks so much!

The staff at the front desk, cleaning staff, and bar tenders were incredible helpful, considerate, and polite. I would most certainly stay there again. The room was clean and quiet. I stayed in a suite on the top floor. My trip was both business and personal.

Parking was $26 per 24 hrs in a poorly signed complicated garage. Definitely the biggest drawback to an otherwise pleasant visit. Among the big pluses were the friendly staff, custom, free breakfast and happy hour. The room was bright, the bed quite luxurious (though I can live without the ever present duvet)
On the downside, the wifi was a pricey $15 per device. Free wifi in the lounge was so weak that it was practically useless.
Agree with previous posters that the location makes dc sites very accessible.

Room Tip: We had a two rm king suite on the 7th floor.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I am pleased that your stay was enjoyable and that you would consider staying with us again. Although I can appreciate that the parking garage can be daunting at times, I hope that this is not going to be a major consideration, especially with all the other forms of transportation (metro and Old Town Trolley both directly across the street, hotel shuttle and city bus service) available once you arrive on property. Please note that we do also have available, free of charge, a Business center, that offers to our guests computer access, when Wifi is difficult to access. I look forward to your next visit. Embassy Suites always has a nice design and layout. We were traveling with three small children (including a baby). The ample size of the double bed suites suited the needs of our family quite comfortably. The grade-school aged children loved the courtyard view from the balcony outside our suite. The proximity to the King Street metro stop made traveling through the DC area a breeze.
Unfortunately, the amenities provided were not matched by the service. We were told to leave our vehicle in the tiny turnabout while we unpacked our bags (ourselves). This left several cars backed up onto Diagonal Road while we unpacked. We couldn't even take our bags in through the front door because they had repairmen working on the entry way during peak arrival time (3 pm on the Friday before Memorial Day).
The Embassy Suites breakfast package was attractive to us, since we were traveling with our family. Unfortunately, the hotel hadn't adequately staffed kitchen and busing staff for the occupancy they enjoyed over the holiday weekend. It was tough to even find an open table at breakfast, but then we ended up having to bus our own tables since the staff wasn't able to keep up with the crowd. The kitchen couldn't bring food out to the buffet lines fast enough to accommodate the crowds either.
The late evening was even worse. On Saturday night, we tried to get a pizza for the kids. My husband had to go looking for a server, since nobody ever came to the table. The server finally came out 15 minutes later. When the food finally came, the pizza itself seemed like it had been re-heated as an afterthought.
We might stay at the hotel again as a location and amenity convenience. If we do, I will make alternate dining arrangements and be prepared to lug all of my own luggage in and out of the hotel at check in and check out.

Thank you for your review. I am deeply concerned that your stay seems to have been plagued by unfortunate circumstances. We find that with such a lovely atrium setting many of our guests enjoy the opportunity to gather and relax during both the breakfast and manager’s reception. This unfortunately at times can cause less seating availability for other guests. I will forward your comments to our Food and Beverage Director for his review, as the food quality should not have been an issue and will need addressing. Should you be inclined to reach out to me, I would gladly welcome your call. Best Regards…MaryAnne Russell General Manager

We stayed at this Embassy Suites for three nights during a visit to the Washington D.C/Alexandria area. You can't beat this location! Directly across the street is the King Street Metro stop (Metro is easy to use) which gives you access to wherever you want to go in Washington, D.C., perfect for visiting museums and other sites (see my review of United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). Just two blocks from the hotel is King Street, Alexandria's historic "Old Town" street loaded with shops and great restaurants. (see my separate review of Vellum). Unless you have walking issues, you can walk King Street all the way down to the waterfront on the Potomac. There's also a free trolley system that runs up and down King Street, with the first stop being only three blocks from Embassy Suites, close to the Hampton Inn. The trolley stops every two blocks -- just look for the signs. At the Potomac waterfront, be sure to visit the "Torpedo Factory", now a collection of artist's studios (see my separate review).

As for the hotel itself, excellent suites, nice ambiance in the central atrium, and a happy hour that includes appetizers and free wine or beer! The included buffet breakfast is great -- better than a full served breakfast that you'll pay for in other hotels! Omelets, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit, waffles, bacon, etc. It's relatively expensive to stay here, as it is at any decent hotel in the DC/Alexandria area, but the location, breakfast and happy hour give it extra value. Parking in Embassy Suites' undergruond garage is an extra $20/night, but worth it. If you're doing DC for a weekend or extended visit, park it and forget it. Would definitely stay here again.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. As you, I agree that when staying with us and sightseeing in DC or Old Town, you might want to forget about using your car. Parking in DC is so limited and costly, that Metro transport is definitely the way to go when visiting the area, especially when the metro is literally across the street. I am pleased that you were able to appreciate the value that our breakfast and Manager’s Reception offer our guests, and look forward to your return. Best Regards…MaryAnne Russell General Manager
