Stayed here for 6 days in February 2013, and found it very conveniently located to the Disgrict and was great for a home base during day trips.
Had a 1 bedroom suite, with a king bed, and my 15 year old on the couch which was nice. More or less full sized appliances, a kitchen and ample closet space. With Northern VA in the winter, you need the space for your mountains of outdoor clothing, especially if you're from California.
Breakfasts are nothing spectacular, but its food..scrambled eggs, one meat, multiple breads, bananas, apples, hit or miss on yoghurt, OJ, coffee, waffle maker (1 for like 486 people) and the standard oatmeal (which is usually your best bet when there is 35 people piling food on their plates like it was the apocalypse)
Manager cocktails were beer (Blue Moon and Bud Light on draft) and occasionally wine, along wih sodas. No actual "cocktail" type ingredients that I recall. The "light dinner" was a stretch, and the best thing I came away from there with was a hot dog. Granted it was a plain hot dog with potato chips and packaged potato salad, but it filled the belly and saved us some money. Another night was some type / form of lasagna? not sure..but there was a bowl of shredded lettuce and another bowl of diced tomatoes (salad maybe?)
Hotel cleanliness is pretty good, but the building itself is a bit dated. Had one day where we received no service in our room at all, and when your gone for 10-12 hours, making up your own bed is a pain, but a necessity.
"Shuttle transport"..complete joke. Told the shuttle would pick us up or take us to the Metro stop whenever we wanted, waited 30 minutes to go to the shuttle once (when they said 10) then were denied a ride from the Metro at 1004 (apparently they stop the shuttle at 10). The worst experience we had was the train breaking down 2 stops from the stop by the hotel, in 36 degrees and 15 mph winds. Called the hotel and they told us to take a bus..it was a total of 4.2 miles, really? You cant come get us?? So an hour and 15 minutes later on the bus, we got off and just took a taxi the remainder of the 2 miles..kinda pissed me off.
Overall, they sell the hotel on the shuttle, the breakfast and the location..the location does matter, the rest, eh..depends on your patience.
Room Tip: Try and get a room away from the street...facing the highway gets loud during commute times
