At this location the quality (cleanliness, food, service) of the hotel has gone down hill since our last visit, which was May of 2010. The Hotel needs better handicap access in and outside of the hotel and the hotel needs new vans.

This hotel stay felt like "home away from home"...the staff were so friendly and accommodating. Great hot breakfast (more choices than ever!)...loved the bacon and eggs and french toast. Manager's special (lite dinner Monday-Thursday) and free "happy hour" from 6:00-7:30 were a wonderful surprise...I only had to buy one meal while visiting D.C. Free shuttle to Van Dorn Metro from 6:00am to 10:00pm. I stored my luggage there on last day, took metro to DC, returned to metro stop and they brought my luggage to me! so that I could catch the train back home. (Amtrak just one stop away by metro). What can I say...I would return in a heartbeat! Thank you Hawthorne Suites for making my stay such a pleasant one. Kudos to the drivers of shuttle, the young woman who bar tended, the front staff, esp. Rashid (sp?), and to housekeeping!

Stayed in this hotel for 4 days while in Alexandria. It is very conveniently located however the studio rooms are VERY small and the bathroom is a tiny square box. Our biggest problem was that the room was VERY warm and they had turned OFF the air-conditioning--and all you could get was heat in the room. It was Thanksgiving w/e but even so turning off the A/C ? Our room had windows to the West so we had to keep the drapes closed all day to be able to stay in the room. We had to request a fan for the room and it was very hard to sleep as it was so warm, even with no heat on. It was very close and stuffy without any fresh air. Breakfast was good however groups sat in the restaurant area and they were allowed to play LOUD rap type music one could hear outside before you entered the building. There were NO luggage carts available for either check-in or checking out and although the attendant at the desk offerred to help was not pleasant to make multiple trips to room and out. The staff was very accommodating and helpful but could not help "because of management".
