“very good pizza, salad, and beer!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

We arrived in Alexandria on a hot day and had missed lunch that afternoon. We walked from our hotel (Lorien) down to RR Pizza and found the place nearly empty at ~ 4PM. It was very nice sitting at the bar sharing a Burratta salad and sausage pizza and some very cold draft micro-brews. It's a thin, Neapolitan pizza cooked in a wood fired oven and has a lovely crust. The bartender, "Boomer", introduced herself and was very friendly & attentive. It was impressive that she would remember you name and use it in conversation.

Tip: I ate here several months ago while in town on business. Discovered that they had 1/2 price bottles of wine on Tuesday nights.

“Questionable Gratuity Practice”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

We have dined here previously and had no issues with the service or food. We ate lunch here after the Cherry Blossom Parade to avoid the crowds in DC. Our party consisted of five, including two children, one below the age of two. Food was good, just as in our previous visit and our service was great also, our waitress was very attentive and food was served promptly. So now my issue—yes there is a note on the menu that says a 20% gratuity “may” be added to parties of five or more, but considering our party of five included two children, the automatic addition of the 20% to our check seemed questionable at the least on who has the discretionary authority to add it to a check. Again, the restaurant clearly stated it had the right to add/not add the gratuity and it was clearly on their menu, but again I also have the right to write this review, never patronage this establishment again and hopefully make another family with children aware of this practice.

“Tasty, Thin Crust Pizza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

I had been looking for an excuse to check out Red Rocks and finally got one when an out-of-town friend came to visit one Friday night. The downtempo electronica soundtrack set the tone right away as that is my type of sound. We ended up ordering your basic margherita pizza which, if a little thinner than your typical chain store pizza, still tasted pretty good.

The one glitch happened when our otherwise affable and efficient server presented us with a check that included someone else’s tab with it and effectively doubled our bill. We pointed this error out to him and he apologized profusely. We still gave him a standard tip; stuff happens. The pizza and a few drinks came out to around $30 including tip.

Walking by on a Wednesday afternoon, I saw a sign outside Red Rocks advertising “Pizza and a Soda for $10”. So there are good values to be had at the restaurant mid-week. I would visit again.

“Great!”

The shrimp appetizer was awesome! Make sure you eat some lemon with every bite. It really makes the flavor pop.

“Don't let the crowds scare you away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

My wife and I were visiting Alexandria Va. and decided to walk around and take in the sights. After poking our heads into several different restaurants and wine shops, we opened the door to Redrocks and were immediately hit in the face with the smell of fresh made wood-fired oven pizza and we were hooked. We started out with a Caesar salad, now if you like your salad swimming in dressing than you won’t care for this. The salad was crisp and cool and lightly dressed with shaved parmesan cheese and home-made croutons, perfectly simple. We then ordered the Antipasto plate that had a nice variety of cured meats, olives, cheese, and home-made bread, perfect flavors that complemented our cold beers. Of course we could not pass up trying a pizza, after looking around to see what others had ordered we settled on the Toscano which had tomato, fresh mozzarella, salami, roasted peppers and grana cheese, it was fantastic. I have to say that the toppings were good, but the crust was amazing with just a bit of that wood oven char on the edges, yum. On top of the good food, the staff was very friendly and attentive. If you find yourself wondering up and down King street in Alexandria Va., give this place a try.
