“Great Location for Mt. Vernon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

I was well pleased with our stay at this Hampton Inn. It's pretty new, so it's in good shape. The hotel is a great location for visiting Mt. Vernon or Ft. Belvoir. However, it's not a great location for visiting DC. Additionally, there's not a lot of restaurants in close proximity to the hotel. If you want to go out to eat, you'll need to drive down the road a bit to a more strip-mall type area (Ruby Tuesday's, Starbucks, Cold Stone, etc). To get to this shopping area you have to drive through a not great part of Alexandria.

We reserved the 2 Queen Room Suite and it was HUGE! It has 2 beds and a pull-out sofa. My daughter was able to do cartwheels in the room without bumping into anything or anyone. During the week the lobby has freshly baked cookies, which were quite tasty. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and well appointed. The complimentary breakfast was nice. They offered a waffle station, a various hot item (eggs, sausage gravy, biscuits, etc.), oatmeal with additions. They offer plenty of room for guests to eat: the main dining area and an overflow room. Some of the chairs were a little low for the tables.

The pool is somewhat of a quandary. They offer a lifeguard, which is an anomaly for most hotels. But because they offer a lifeguard, they limit the pool hours to only the time where the lifeguard is on duty. I think it would benefit them to offer a "no lifeguard on duty" time as well. The pool also offers something rarely seen in a hotel pool: handicap lift into the pool.

Room Tip: The 2 Queen or King Suite is an exceptionally large room and worth the extra money.

We just recently stayed here on a trip to Mount Vernon and this Hampton Inn was great. Very large and clean hotel with a great breakfast included! Sheldon at the front desk was very friendly and accomodating to our needs. Would definitely stay here again--is somewhat hard to get to though as it is on a very busy expressway. But worth it!

Three year old facility. Very nicely decorated. Good complementary breakfast served until 10 am. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I will definitely stay here again when in the area.

This hotel was really good. It had even laundry facilities for guest and a free shuttle service to or the Metro or the Old Town Alexandria. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Although we had a room facing the busy highway we could hardly hear any noise. One point again the swimming pool was closed and would open at Memorial Day

We stayed here at this Hampton Inn back in December 2011. The staff at that time was so helpful. We stayed again at the end of March on a Friday that I describe as the night from hell ! We checked in, which went fine and was assigned a room on the second floor. We were sound asleep in our room at 10:30PM when all of a sudden hear loud banging , kids screaming, people laughing and just being inconsiderate. It was a bus tour from Alabama ( 2 buses ) that entered the second floor door through the parking lot. ( street level entrance ) I would have hoped the front desk would have mentioned to the bus tour group to be considerate but they probably thought they would have known better.I called the front desk but nothing was done. We did not sleep at all ! If that was not bad enough, Breakfast consisted of toast, bagels , some fruit but no muffins, home fries, etc. This was such a dissapointment compared to our last visit. Do yourself a favor and do not reserve a room on the second floor. Bus trips will enter through the street level 2nd floor door.

We almost didn't book this hotel because of some of the negative reviews-- but we're so glad we went ahead and tried it anyway. It was just great! No problems. Just what we expect from Hampton Inns. The staff was excellent-- professional, friendly. Very comfortable, spacious room. Extremely clean, neat. Quiet. Despite being on Route 1, the hotel is so well sited that we looked out onto greenery next door and felt far from a road. The breakfast buffet was just fine; as in all our Hampton experiences the range of options is better than many hotels. I agree with one negative comment that the pool hours are not too accommodating; a morning swim for exercise before breakfast, especially on a saturday, would have been nice, and I can imagine that families with children could use more access during the day. Overall, it was a classic Hampton Inn experience -- consistent, dependable quality. The price was good, too, and especially for a metropolitan area.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the side of the hotel where the hotel entrance is look into greenery (not the road) and...

I have never before had such a bad experience at a Hampton in (where i say frequently). We checked in at 1030 at night and there were no luggage carts and the desk clerk didn't care. After lugging our luggage and two children up to our room i find a luggage cart in the hallway. I call the front desk to request the portable cirb that i previously requested in my account preferences, only to find out that the 300+ room hotel only has one cirb that's being used by someone else. In the morning there were no eggs for breakfast. The second morning there were again no eggs and now there is no syrup for the waffles or french toast sticks (now my breakfast is limited to sausage slices). Upon checking our luggage we find my daughters dirty diaper we left on the floor now in our luggage. (thank you room cleaners!). Upon checkout the desk clerk informs us that Hampton inns 100% guarantee is only a 50% guarantee in our case (the guarantee only covers one night, they say). After getting home i check my credit card and discover they did not even refund one night ! Ive called Hampton inn corporate customer support three times now and i have yet to get a refund.
