“The innkeepers make this B&B experience delightful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2011

Having stayed exclusively in Bed and Breakfasts during the last 7 years, our experience at the Peake-Fairfax was truly exceptional. I spend quite a bit of time picking out the best B&B for each of our trips, so I knew this place would be wonderful. And it was. The owners, Dot and Chet, along with Christian, their son, made our stay very enjoyable. It was such a pleasure spending an evening with them in their parlor during our stay. This family is very unique. To hear about their travels and life experiences is worth the trip alone! Dot is an extrodinary woman. Chet is a very accomplished man and in his retirement he has become a novalist. No wonder their three children are so accomplished, and Christian, who happened to come home during our stay, is a real charmer. Their home is beautiful, decorated with many antiques and the renovation of this 1800's building shows their extreme attention to detail. Breakfast was lovely every morning dining in the beautiful dining room. The table was set with fine china and it was such a pleasure speaking with the other couples also staying at this B&B. The location is fantastic. The B&B is located just a couple of blocks from King street which is the main street through this quaint town. There is a trolley which takes you to the Metro which makes getting around an easy experience. Taking the Metro into DC was quick. We did not have a car and getting around was very easy. We took the Metro from the airport directly to Alexandria and then the trolley dropped us two blocks away from the B&B. Every morning we would take the trolley to the Metro and then the Metro into DC. We also walked several times to the Metro and the walk was quite enjoyable. Their are many shops and restaurants along King Street including many antique shops. When returning to Washington DC, the Peake-Fairfax House will definitely be our home away from home.

Room Tip: Their are only two bed rooms availble for guests on the third floor of the B&B. There is a loft...

We loved Chet,Dot, and Christian. They definitely have the gift of hospitality.Having a glass of wine with them at 5pm in the parlor was my favorite part of my stay. I would definitely stay there again. The bed was really comfortable and the room was a nice size. We walked to our restaurants both nights.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms on the third floor so pack light. We were on a quiet street. Our room didn...

My husband and I had the extreme pleasure of a weekend at the Peake-Fairfax over the Columbus Holiday weekend. The only downside was when we had to leave. From the first moment to the last Dot and Chet made us feel like family. We were also lucky enough to meet two of their children who were equally gracious. The spacious townhouse has been lovingly restored to a shining example of what a B and B should be. I simply can not imagine staying anywhere else when in Old Town Alexandria.

Room Tip: Palladian Room is large, quiet and charming.

Our stay at the Peake Fairfax House was an enjoyable experience. The House was beautiful and very clean. The owners, Dorothy and Chet, were wonderful and were always willing to accomodate any of our needs. We stayed in the Palladian Suite which was very roomy, quiet, and has its own bathroom. Breakfast was set out in the dining room every morning. Located a block from King Street, it was easy to hop on a trolly to catch the Metro at the end of King Street. There are lots of great shops, restaurants, and coffee shops nearby. We would highly recommend a stay at this B&B to anyone planning a trip to Alexandria or the DC area.

Beautiful, perfectly restored house. Excellent location for exploring alexandria and DC. Very hospitable hosts, definitely recommend having a glass of wine with them in the parlor, the most fascinating part of the stay. We plan to return.

Peake-Fairfax House, a beautifully and sensitively restored early nineteenth century home, provides for all the needs of its guests. From its prime location in charming, historic Alexandria, with easy access to the Metro and all points therein, to the beautifully decorated and comfortable rooms and its gracious and helpful owners, Dorothy and Chet, I can not imagine a more delightful place to stay. Dorothy and Chet provided just the right balance between contact with guests and giving us space and privacy. Breakfast was ready for us when we came down each morning, and was certainly substantial enough to keep a person going through the day. I particularly enjoyed the historic aspects of the home, and the fact that we were surrounded by inspiring works of European art, chosen by Dorothy during buying trips to the European continent, in her capacity as a fine art dealer. This was my first visit to the D.C. area, and Peake-Fairfax House made it a memorable one indeed.

The Peake-Fairfax House is so much more than a B&B. It is a rendezvous with Alexandria's history, elegance and warmth wrapped in a package of comfort (the sheets were divine!) and hospitality! The painstakingly restored Peake-Fairfax House is located on a historically significant street in Old Town, across the street from George Washington's townhouse, and steps to Gadsby's Tavern, Christ's Church and King Street. As you'll learn from its delightful owners, Dorothy and Chet, the house was once two homes (one from the 18th century and the other from the 19th) combined by a member of the Fairfax family. Some highlights: an original colonial-era hearth; Federal style architectural details and decor as illuminated in the dining room where morning breakfast is served; period art work throughout; wine and engaging conversation with Dorothy and Chet; and lovely private rooms. All I can say is, make your reservations before the word gets out about this treasure!
