Just returned from a stay at this hotel 7/4-7/9, my sister, my nephews and myself. When we arrived we had to wait to check in as there were no clean rooms due to the parade in D.C. We walked around the grounds and saw the pond with the fountain and the retreat area. After waiting over 2 hours to check in we agreed to take a room in the retreat, I was somewhat concerned as I had read reviews on this forum. However I was very pleased with the retreat room. It was larger that the other rooms and had a deck. It was very quiet and relaxing, whereas the hotel was very loud. The long walk that others talked about was no more than going downstairs past the pool and down a short hallway and we were on the 5th floor. It took my nephew and I longer to go up to one of the top floor than it did to walk from my room to the lobby.
We had great housekeeping service and the room was very nice and neat.
The bathroom had lots of towels and neutregena products.
They have a shuttle that runs to the Pentagon City metro and is very convient, with the exception of being very full and on the 4th we were packed like sardines. They run starting at 6am and the last one is 11pm. They run every 30 minutes.
There is a very nice Borders bookstore, Starbucks, and a great pizza place called California Pizza Kitchen across the street. The mall is very nice and there is a food court downstairs.
We loved our whole vacation and look forward to going back again. My advise to anyone is to do your research. I read every travel book I could find. Know what metro lines to take, the hours the museums are open and if it says to get in line for tickets early do it. And drink lots of water in the summer heat.
Also expect small problems but don't let them keep you from enjoying the whole experience, it is well worth it.
