“You Pay for Quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

It is difficult to find anything wrong with this Hilton. Big clean rooms, multiple quick elevators, large comfortable beds with lots of pillows, all the amenities are there, but, of course, the prices are higher. The fees and taxes on a $13.00 room service breakfast were over $9.00. The location is excellent, near the Metro and Amtrak and actually in (barely) Old Town. Paying to park at a hotel is just wrong to me, but it's everywhere, so I guess I can't fault them. It will probably always be wrong to me. This is a fine place to stay. I enjoyed it and certainly paid for the enjoyment.

Very clean, location was convenient to DC/northern VA area. Close to Old Town Alexandria restaurant & very good restaurants as well as accessible to routes to Middleburg, VA/DC subway and shopping and restaurants. Able to find parking convenient to metro area to DC museums and mall area.

The lobby and other public space is very attractive. Were were in the Retreat Center which is a bit remote from the main building. We had asked for a microwave and they upgraded us to the Retreat room. The room was very large and well appointed with a terrace. The bath has a bidet and an Jacuzzi. We had a problem with the refrigerator. It was no temp controls and required a maintenance person to turn it on and set the temp. We later found that he set it so low it froze our food. The heat/ac was never dealt with. The heat/ac unit simply did not respond to the thermostat and it was never fixed.

While we liked the hotel I would advise against the Retreat Center. It is so remote that the maids come after 4:00 and I suspect that the rooms do not get the attention that the other rooms in the hotel do. We were there for 3 night and the room was never vacuumed.

Room Tip: Avoid the retreat Center

We've stayed here several times for business location requirements. Bathroom tile needs good cleaning and rooms showing wear. Gym adequate wth treadmill. Has small pool. Not near local metro. Take free Hilton shuttle to Pentagon City and catch metro transit at that location. Also free pick up/drop off at Reagan airport. Hotel restaurants only fair. Walk around block to Clyde's for fairly good food but not cheap. Suggest a cab (approx $16.50 each way) to Alexandria Old Town for terrific restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for the "older" building with a view of the pond. Caution, it's a long walk to th...

Who wants to drive around DC?This Hilton lives up to the brand. The main purpose of this trip was to attend a concert at Kennedy Center. Hilton provided airport pickup and a shuttle to and from the Pentagon City metro stop. From there all of DC is at your
disposal. Additionally, this Hilton is directly across the street from a city bus depot center.

I absolutely loved it here! So close to all big tourist attractions. Literally 15-20 minute ride into Washington. T station across the street. So many restaurants and stores nearby. The bar in the hotel had good cheap drinks! The bed was heaven, I slept like a baby! Bathroom very clean and good size. There were Peter Thomas Roth products (top brand line sold at sephora) in the bathroom! Housekeeping was always nice enough to restock daily. Wet bar area with nice fridge, huge tv. Check in and out smooth and easy! Heads up on parking through, $25.25 a night, a bit high for such small tight spaces and no in and out privilege. I'm glad to have read previous reviews and would definitely stay here again! Highly recommend it!

When we arrived, they had no non-smoking rooms available, so they put us in a smoking room in the Retreat Center with the promise to move us the next day to the room of our choice in the tower (main hotel). They also gave us tickets for complimentary breakfasts in the hotel restaurant for our entire stay. True to their word, they found us a room in the tower the next morning and moved all of our belongings for us. The staff is not exactly gregarious or chummy, but they all did their jobs well, quickly, and courteously without being obsequious.

Dining options are limited (Finn and Porter in the lobby), but good. There's not much in walking distance, so prepare to drive if you want to eat anywhere other than Finn and Porter. There are many very good restaurants in Alexandria, which is a lovely town that makes you forget you're so close to DC. The gift shop had outrageously expensive snack items, but reasonable priced gifts.

The room was comfortable and the amenities were as described. Be warned, the walls in the tower were paper thin. There were times that the folks next door to us would talk and it almost sounded as if they were in the room with us - it was creepy at times. Thankfully, this was never a problem at night. The air was not easy to control - it was either too hot or too cold, but never to a great extreme.

Housecleaning did a great job and were very prompt when we had any needs.

Room Tip: Avoid the Retreat Center. The higher the floor the better because the views are good. Ask for a room...
