Be warned, I am an avid KImpton fan: clean and everything works, very comfortable, pet friendly, free wi-fi for members, one time $10 mini bar credit per stay, outstanding service and staff is extremely nice, paper at the door in the morning, free wine 5-6 p.m., nice coffee and tea in the mornings, nice toiletries - just to name a few. Now for the review of the property - this one in Alexandria Virginia.
We played tourist with our good friends from California and wanted a place that could serve as our base for three nights while touring Washington DC and historic sites in Virginia (Montpellier and Monticello) - an hour and 30 minutes away. We chose Kimpton because 1) it is a Kimpton, 2) the location. We got more than we expected. We went over memorial day weekend and got a rate of $109 (incredible) and before we checked in asked for early arrival and foam pillows (do this while making reservations). Alexandria was easy to get to, hotel easy to find, immediately greeted by valet who said if we forget anything in the car just call and they will immediately retrieve as car is parked close.
Property is located on King Street in Alexandria and who would know, King Street is the main drag with cute shops and eateries all along down to the waterfront with a free shuttle that runs the length (although we walked for all but a short bit and it was nice). We had a great time that afternoon and all is well. Had a few good beers and snacks in one of three on-site restaurants which was also very nice although the Brabo Tasting Room was a bit small.
Next day did DC and imagine this - the Metro is a 5 minute walk (King Street Station). We bought a day pass and went into DC for the Memorial Day Parade and touring - awesome.
OK getting a little long winded here, my apologies - in essence, if you are looking for a consistently high performing, well thought out, friendly/accepting, energetic, clean brand hotel, Kimptons are the place. We have stayed at two other Kimpton's in DC (DuPoint Circle and one other - unable to recall location) but had the same experience.
A great location for a great "boutique" hotel. An excellent experience. Go you will enjoy and have a ton to do between VA and DC.
Forgot to mention they have a spa and I think I heard 24 hour fitness center - we didn't use either.
