“If you want a hotel that makes you feel at home this is it.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2010

This hotel tries to make you feel at home from the great breakfasts to the managers social hour every day. The rooms are great, comfortable beds, quiet rooms. Within walking distance of shopping malls, discount stores, fast food resturants, and Skyline 7. The flat screen TVs in bedrooms and living room make th3e stay even more like home. If you are working late the kitchen offers Microwave, stove, dish washer, refrigator, and all the utensils you will need. If in DC and you want a hotel that makes you feel at home this is the one for you.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2010

I lived in the Arlington/Alexandria area for 37 years. In 2008, I retired and moved to the beach 3 hours away. On July 22, 2010, I came back to Alexandria for a retirement party honoring a longtime colleague and I stayed in this hotel. Being just a 1-night stay and having a lot of social activity planned, I was not able to take advantage of many of the hotel's amenities. This is unfortunate, I think, judging from the wonderful smells wafting through the dining room at breakfast and dinner times (the hotel offers a complimentary breakfast bar and a light meal at happy hour)!

I had a non-smoking king suite, room 320. When you enter the suite, there is a couch/chair and flatscreen TV, a small dining table and chairs and a kichenette. I didn't look in all the cupboards as I wasn't going to be eating in, but I saw that plates, cups and silverware were provided. There was a microwave, fridge and even a mini dishwasher. They even provided dishtowel and dishcloth, which I thought was great.

In a separate room was the king-size bed and another flatscreen TV. Off that room is a dressing area, closet and sink with a nice long counter (plenty of room for one person to shave, say and the other to be putting on makeup or drying their hair. Behind a separate door is the actual bathroom--toilet and shower. The shower had one of those curved curtainrods on it, so there was plenty of room and the curtain never touched me.

A few specific points on things I liked and didn't:

1. There was plenty of hot water (good) on immediate demand (very good), but it was so blazing hot so fast that it was easy to burn myself just washing my hands briefly (bad).

2. The cold water is not even close to being cold...barely lukewarm (bad). Nasty to take medication with or drink for most any reason. Not nasty tasting, just not cold.

3. Air conditioning was cold and plentiful (good) but noisy (bad). Let's see...where should we put this big noisy piece of electrical equipment? Ah yes! Right next to the bed! (BAD!)

4. There is a perfect place for the TV directly across from the bed, but there is an air conditioner unit in a closet there (bad). The TV is beside it, up against the curtains and sitting in an alcove; it isn't always easy to get a good angle from the bed (would have been easier if I'd slept on the other side of the bed, but since I get up at night to use the restroom, it was much easier to sleep on the side closest to the bathroom).

5. There is a ceiling fan (EXCELLENT!) in the bedroom. I love sleeping with a ceiling fan and very few hotels have them. With the AC so cold and so loud, I ended up getting up out of bed to turn the thermostat up and just slept with the ceiling fan on.

6. Distance from front desk to room is one of my pet peeves. In the olden days, you checked into a hotel at the desk, walked right into an elevator near the desk, and the only walking you had to do with your luggage was if you happened to be at the end of a hall. At this hotel, the desk is right inside the front door (GOOD!) but to get to the elevator, I had to walk all the way through the lobby and dining area, then turn into a corridor of guest rooms and walk a bit (TERRIBLE!). Granted, if you are staying a week or you are a family of four, you'd likely ask for a luggage cart. There were none when I arrived, and since I was only staying one night and I was just 1 person, I just lugged it all on foot. Later, when I was leaving for the retirement party, I saw luggage cards right inside the front door. Also saw them the next morning when I was heading out for breakfast.

7. Having such a short stay, I did not interact with the hotel staff much. The front desk staff was friendly upon my arrival and upon my departure. I noticed the maids were already cleaning rooms when I left for breakfast at 8:45 a.m. I thought that a little early, but perhaps they knew of people who had checked out very early. After I'd checked in, I got a phone call from the desk asking if everything was alright with my room (OUTSTANDING!).

I would stay there again. It wasn't the best hote experience I've ever had, but it certainly wasn't close to the worst. Above average, I'd say. Hence, 4 stars.

I took the Family on a business trip to DC. Room/ 2 Queen suite and pullout sofa was very spacious and clean. It had a Refrig and stove top (did not use because of all the good food around and DC area). Hot tub and fitness center open 24 hours.
Full breakfast in the morning daily and light dinner on M-F.

I took the metrobus (25A) to the pentagon metro station to ride the metrorail into DC one morning.

I will come back :)

Overall excellent hotel. Room was very spacious and thoroughly cleaned every day. Free Wi-Fi was a very nice amenity. The daily complementary breakfast was a very good value, as was the light dinner; which was also free. There is plenty of seating in the dining area. Staff was very hard-working at the breakfast and dinners to make sure everything was kept neat and clean, and that none of the food trays were empty. This hotel was a very enjoyable stay.

Pros - large room with full kitchen, comfortable beds, great free breakfast every morning, free snacks and drinks on weekday evenings, free WIFI, free parking. The staff were very nice and friendly.

Cons - you'll need a car if you want to visit DC, because it's not close to the metro or to much of anything really. It wasn't a problem for us though.
