“Great small hotel...staff was great and many extras”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2009

This hotel has great staff. The shuttle was always there when I was needing it, the staff always were attentive and friendly. The location was great. Just a few blocks from King Street. The breakfast was good. The workout area had enough machines to get a work out. Hot water with good pressure. The beds were a little hard, but I can sleep on anything. Noise was not bad at all. If you are looking for something basic with tons of extras, this is a great place with a good price. Oh...did I forget, free internet as well as a free stocked snack area? This alone could save you major bucks!

Upon checking out we accidently left an iPod with headphones and 2 stuffed animals in a bed and they were stolen by housekeeping. Managemnent was less than helpful and very defensive of the housekeeping staff stating "they would never steal". Bottom line was they were not tuned in when the room was cleaned, so what other reasonable explanation was there? I would NEVER stay there again. The hotel was very average in cleanliness and quality.

My daughter and I stayed five nights at the Old Colony Inn while on a trip to Alexandria and Washington DC. My husband and I have stayed there two times in the past and enjoyed our stay both times. That's why I wanted to stay there again. It's very convenient if you're flying in to Regan National airport and are travelling without a car. The hotel shuttle picked us up at the airport and was available to take us to the Braddock Street metro station whenever we wanted to go into DC. With a phone call, the shuttle would come to pick us up and take us back to the hotel. Very convenient. The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood and is within walking distance of Old Town Alexandria. The hot breakfast in the morning is very good and has a variety of choices. The 24-hour snack room is a nice addition to the hotel. All kinds of snacks and drinks are available to hotel guests at no extra charge. This was very handy. Especially when we were pretty much "stuck" in the hotel on the day that Tropical Storm Hannah blew through town. My daughter and I had taken off into Old Town thinking that a little rain wouldn't be too bad, but it soon came in buckets. We called for the shuttle which came and "rescued" us. We were in the hotel for the rest of the day, including through lunch time. With food from the snack room, we were okay that way, and we enjoyed watching a DVD in our room. By dinnertime the storm had passed, so we were able to go out for dinner in Old Town. The hotel rooms are well appointed and the beds are comfortable. Housekeeping was very good for all the days we were there. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The few times that the shuttle was unavailable, the front desk clerk called for a taxi and we were reimbursed for the fare. We had a great stay at Old Colony Inn and would definitely stay there again when back in the DC area.

Nice place to stay. We usually stay in Vienna wanted somewhere different. It had charm and we had 2 teenage boys and a preteen daughter. Wonderful breakfast one of the best we have ever had that was by far the best part. My kids loved the computers and free internet that means alot to teens. We used the free shuttle service to Metro and that was great. We really din't find any good places to eat around the Inn we were told about some just didn't find any except a Wendy's not big on my list but it was food. My only problem with the Inn was this 2nd floor snack room everyone was so excited about. Don't be wxcited that was nothing there it was empty. We wanted a drink didn't have any. It lists crackers, soup, chips all this great stuff and we were hungry but it was empty don't know what was going on there but it was a great trip maybe better luck next time I would stay there again

I chose this hotel based on the reviews; couldn't have been happier. The hotel can be a bit tricky to locate but we used AAA directions and followed them exactly, got us right to the door. Located in a very safe & clean part of town the hotel offers plenty of convenient lit parking. There were three of us, 2 adults and a 12 yr old child staying in a two-bed room. Be sure to note, the beds (at least in our room) were doubles, not queens so it may be a bit more cozy than you expect. The inside of the hotel is not fancy but very clean & comfortable. Our room looked, smelled & felt clean, the bathroom was clean & we had plenty of towels. We were very surpised to find a new flat screen tv in the room, although it really did get much use. We had no real complaints with the maid service although we did notice our supply of washcloths & hand towels dwindling as the days went on. The breakfast included in the room price was amazing. We were there for 3 mornings; each morning there was two different types of scrambled eggs (plain & western style), first day we had sausage patties & ham available, next day it was ham & sausage links, following day it was sausage links, sausage patties & smoked polish sausage. Also included was the "make-your-own belgian waffle", corn beef hash, fried potatoes, biscuits & sausage gravy, several kinds of fresh fuit, variety of cereal, bagels, muffins, bread for toasting, and several kinds of juice & coffee. Food was hot & fresh even on the third day when we arrived 20 minutes before it ended. The complimentary snack/drink kitchen was something I have never experienced. There was several kinds of soda, juice, bottled water, variety of yogurt, pudding cups, ice cream bars, granola bars, cup-of-soup, tea bags and a 24-hour coffee/hot chocolate machine. Had all the condiments/cups/bowls/napkins & plastic silverware you needed. I am sure there are people who abuse an "extra" like this, hopefully not to the point that they remove this wonderful convenience. The free shuttle provided by the hotel to & from the Metro was extremely convenient. We asked them at about 8:45am when the next shuttle would be running to the Metro, the desk called the driver and we were on our way in 10 minutes. The driver provided us with a number to call when we arrived back at the Metro station, we called, asked for a shuttle and he was there in 15 minutes. Front desk gave us directions to the "downtown" part of Old Town and although I am sure the directions were right on, we had some difficulty. Between one-way streets and being unfamiliar with the area we got a bit turned around but eventually got there and wished we had come a bit earlier. King Street has a lot of specialty shops & variety of restaurants. Would be a great area to spend several hours in the evening. The price, amenities, location & friendly staff make this one of the best hotels. I would absolutely recommend this as a place to stay if visiting Washington D.C. When we go back, this is where we will stay.

Very nice place to stay, all staff were very nice. Got there early and were able to check in since the room was ready. Nice breakfast in morning - good variety. The 24 hr snack kitchen on 2nd floor was wonderful, still can't believe the variety of snacks and drinks available and included in cost of room. Used the free shuttle to the Metro to go into Washington and when we arrived back, someone came to pick us up within 10 min. Tricky to find the hotel - use hotel directions to get there. There were places to eat around the hotel you could get to by car, hotel personnel could recommend. Would definitely stay here again when in the area. I do agree that the maid service was a little off - forgot our bedspread the first two days along with second garbage pail. Then took soap and didn't replace. Little things - nothing big - depended on who cleaned room. There is no elevator here so if you can't do stairs ask for room on 1st floor. There is a opened elevator on first floor to get someone down to the ground floor for breakfast.

We wanted to stay in the DC area, but chose to stay in Alexandria thinking it would be more affordable, and fun to explore as well.
This hotel was very affordable for my husband and I, and our two kids. We arrived at the Reagan Nat'l Airport at 10:30 pm, got lost trying to find our way out of there in the dark amidst all of the road construction, and then couldn't find a restaurant anywhere still open (everything closed down early). So by the time we found our hotel (it is hard to spot at night), we were all starving! The desk clerk was really nice and told us to help ourselves to their snack kitchen - we loaded up on soups, granola bars, milk for the baby, and several other things!

All of the hotel clerks we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean, but nothing fancy. There is a small hot tub in the 'gym', but no pool. The hotel is at the far north end of Old Town, too far to walk to anyways. At least parking was free and there were some fun restaurants to go to in Old Town. We went to a great pizza place and a wonderful Irish pub/restaurant in Old Town.

Overall, this hotel is fine for families with young kids (teens might be bored here), or singles/business people, nothing romantic about it though!
