I was surprised how much I liked this hotel. It has a modern decor and modern conveniences. The rooms have been updated to include high quality mattresses and granite counters in the bathroom. Free Wall Street Journal and USA Today every morning. Loved the oatmeal offered at breakfast and enjoyed the common area of the lobby. Shuttle will take you to Old Town and local metro stops. We were also part of a conference and the shuttle would take us daily to our meetings. Only wish they had more shuttles. We had to go in shifts. I would come back to this hotel and stay for pleasure. It has all the modern amenities needed for a pleasant, well above average stay.

I spent five nights here while waiting for my new apartment nearby to be ready. There's a lot to recommend it, but some things to be aware of.

This Courtyard is NOT your typical Courtyard by Marriott. The guest rooms appear to have been newly refurbished and are quite nice, inclusive of all the modern amenities. If the beds were as comfortable as Westin's Heavenly Beds, this hotel could give the Westin nearby a run for its money.

In addition to the well-appointed guest rooms, this hotel has a snack pantry, a modest restaurant, convenient location to the Eisenhower Metro, a shuttle bus, and a well-equipped fitness center.

What it doesn't have is a staff that understands what service is all about.

On two separate occasions, I was either waiting to be served at the restaurant or waiting to ask a question of the desk clerk when another guest barged in front of me. While that' was the other guest's fault, the server or the desk clerk SHOULD have said, "I'm sorry, this gentleman was here first. Let me help him, and then I'll take good care of you."

They didn't, and the hotel gets poor marks for it.

Even overlooking the lauckluster service, the room rate is nothing to write home about. While it's not exhorbitant, it's higher than the nearby Hyatt, and on par with the Westin a few minutes' walk east of the location.

All things considered, unless you're a demon for Marriott Rewards points, I'd stay at the Westin or the Hyatt. Better value for the money, and better treatment in the offing.

Not bad, but one can do far better in Alexandria.

This hotel was very convenient, clean and helpful. Just what we wanted for a short weekend trip out of town. A great deal compared to other hotels around especially once you figure in the price of parking. We had a top floor corner room with king size bed. The room was large clean and as it was on the corner had two huge walls of windows. The staff was very helpful and the shuttle worked out perfect for us. This is one of very few hotels in Alexandria that doesn't charge for parking. The Eisenhower metro station is actually only 2 blocks on the same side of the road from the hotel or you can take the free shuttle. The hotel is in a quiet business complex across from a condo complex. Not a very scenic view but safe and peaceful. We got suggestions on restaurants and places in Old town from both the hotel staff and shuttle drivers. It was a quick 8 minute drive(with red lights) to the start of Old Town where we hopped the free Trolley to go sightseeing. The metro being so close also made getting into and around DC quick and easy. The metro took about 15 min to Smithsonian Station from the Eisenhower station and around 30 to get to the Redskins stadium to watch a game.

The hotel is located nearly 2 miles from the US Patent office. There seems to be some police drill going on below the hotel most of the days and you can hear shouting in your rooms. First time i wondered that some crime had occurred but when i enquired, then i was told that it is a police drill. This is quite disturbing and annoying at times when you want peace. The nearest market which is the old town is also 3-4 miles from the hotel. Fittings at the hotel are old and giving way with time

  • Liked — There is a railway line close to the hotel which is going uphill. Quite a scene watching trains go by
  • Disliked — Its location and the police drill which happens more or less everyday outside the hotel

I stayed on government rate and found that they give a free "full breakfast" with the room. Well, it was actually a typical continental breakfast like other motels, plus they advertised it as being a $7.95 buffet, but asked me to sign a ticket that quoted the "value" of the free meal was $16. It sounds like their cooking books somehow, but it doesn't matter to me. My main beef was it was close to busy/noisy highways; the on-site construction was unsightly; half of the equipment in the fitness room didn't work properly. I have additional business in the area in the next couple months, but I definitely won't be staying here.

Upon arrival we were placed in a room that was 81 degrees in there when we checked in. I tried to lower the temperature of the room and the thermostat was hanging off the wall. There was also a leak under the air conditioner and the floor was soaking wet under the unit by the window. We called and they actually did give us another room which was nice.
The other room actually wasn't furnished as nice as the broken heat room, but the A/C did work. The hotel is under construction and the lobby is full of plastic and workers painting all around the elevator while you are trying to get on the elevator. We actually had a guy painting over our heads while we waited on the elevator.
As we went down to breakfast the maid asked if we wanted our room serviced and we said we did, but we were coming back up so we asked her to wait until we left an hour or so later. She said okay.
When we returned later that night our bed was not made, but there were fresh towels. I honestly think that they FORGOT to make our bed or just didn't feel like doing it. So only half of our room got serviced.

Upon check-in we mentioned that we were visiting the area. We got great detailed recommendations on local areas to check out. The metro is a very short walk which was very nice. There is a shuttle that we did take once due to rain. There are several restaurants across from the metro and we enjoyed them. There is construction going on outside the window at the highway which was unpleasant on Friday morning 7AM. Regarding the person that wrote about security- it is a city and the security and area is what I expect for a city.
