“Safe. Comfortable. Perfect!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2009

My husband and I stayed at this hotel when I was visiting him during his stay in Washington DC. This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at! The hotel is decently close to the Eisenhower metro stop. Although the first jaunt to the hotel was rough the free shuttle service from the hotel to the metro station and back kept us from making this trip more than once. The complimentary shuttle was quick and so convenient and the drivers were very friendly. The staff was wonderful and always willing to help.

The updated design of the room was very relaxing and comfortable and we came back to the hotel to a very clean room each day. It would have been nice to be a bit closer to restaurants but I will sacrifice that convenience any day to stay and this safe location. They also provide a shuttle service to old town Alexandria each night, which we never took advantage of, but I'm sure it would've been wonderful. We had a great stay and slept better at this hotel then we do at home. All-in-all a comfortable, convenient, safe stay in the Washington DC area!!

My stay was extremely unpleasant.
The doors on the rooms were flimsy with daylight showing on the bottom and sides. The doors would slam hard and every time any door along the hallway slammed, all the doors would shake and vibrate. This made it hard to sleep at night and in the morning when others were checking in and out. The maids started about 7 am, going up and down the hall, opening each door to check if it was occupied. I have always had favorable views of Courtyard Marriott, but I probably won't choose Marriott again after this experience. Isn't there a certain standard that your properties must maintain? I also have to say the hotel was hard to find and we had to go for miles to find places to eat. The room didn't have a desk chair, or any chair for that matter. I called down and asked the front desk if there was supposed to be a desk chair, they said yes and they would send one up. They sent up a chair from the restaurant that obviously did not belong in the room.

All hotels in Alexandria are overpriced - and this one is no better. The difference is what you get for that inflated price.

First the location - hard to find from the highway if you're not pretty familar with the area...lots of construction at nearby interchanges. Parking was a little skeptical, not well maintained. But, I'm a runner, and the hotel is on a road (Eisenhower) great for running in the morning/evening, so that was a plus.

The room was fine - bed was comfortable, room was clean, bathroom was spacious. Pretty standard for $200/night!

My biggest problem with this hotel was the noise. I was on the second floor - so maybe that was part of the problem. But doors were slamming at all hours of the night and early morning. That was a huge frustration.

There is a bar/lounge in the hotel - but the food offering is pretty sparce. No room service. No places to eat in walkable distance. However there is a large shopping/movies/eatery place not far away - just over the bridge. There is a continental breakfast, and mine was included with my rate - not sure everyone's is? It was very substantial - but overpriced (I received a receipt for everything I ate, even though it was included - weird), so buyer be warned.

For that caliber of a hotel, and the price I paid, it was not at all what I expected.

Room was ok but bathroom needed some sprucing up......wallpaper was poorly hung, towels were old and thin. We had to dig out the blanket for the sofa bed since there was only a thin one on the bed. That blanket was questionable as to cleanliness. TV was situated on dresser adjacent to bed, not at the end, making it awkward to watch from bed. It also was old. Location was convenient to I395 and parking was free. There were no restaurants within walking distance.

We stayed at this hotel during the presidential festivities in late January. I stay at Marriott hotels often and usually try to seek them out when possible. Overall, I think there are some things to be aware of when booking this hotel (not deal breakers but important things).
The first thing is the hotel's age. It isn't a very new hotel (especially compared to most courtyard hotels that have a younger feel). Because of this you may not feel like the hotel is really up to the quality of a Marriott - not to any fault of the staff (clean rooms etc) but it shows age in the paint, bathrooms and carpet. The second is the location. While they have an on-demand shuttle (6:30 am - 10:00 pm) that runs to the Metro, it really isn't as Metro-location friendly as it may appear. The walk is sort of an odd 10-minute walk over a highway overpass to the hotel. It's not that it's a difficult walk per se, just that it's an awkward walk to do after leaving the Metro (especially later at night). The third concern is the location in general. You should expect about a 40-minute commute into the District on the Metro (especially factoring in any waiting time for the train or the walk/shuttle to the Metro) - so if you are looking for a place to visit the District, you may simply want to stay at a Courtyard closer in.
The two upsides were the price (we paid $240 or so while most hotels were near $500 during this season) and the staff. The staff were excellent.
Overall, If we were going to simply visit the District we would suggest to look for a hotel right on a Metro line either in or closer to DC proper.
