My husband and I stayed at the Alexandria Courtyard for one week on a business trip. The check in was good, the staff was friendly and helpful when asked. The location is walking distance to the metro so that was a plus. They offer a shuttle service at limited times for the guest to the metro and to old town Alexandria. We used it often. It is easy to get around on the metro to D.C. and most of the sights. The gym was okay, they had several treadmills, but the universal equiptment was not very good. (only one piece). The restaurant is only open during the week and we only had a glass of wine in the bar. Our room was okay. It seems to be one of the older Marriotts in the area. The parking is free and they do have some garage parking so that was nice. The room air conditioner worked well, but the common area's were on the warm side. We stayed here on points so I was satisfied with my stay, but I would stay at the Residence Inn or one of the newer Marriott's in the future. They did have fresh baked cookies at the front desk most nights that were good.

To start off, the receptionist couldn't find our reservation. When she finally found it, she said it was under my name the entire time. The receptionist was not friendly or informative. The room was just as bad. The light in the bathroom didn't work and the shower temperature was difficult to control. They told me when I made the reservation that breakfast would be included. Then when we went to breakfast they denied it and insisted on charging an addition $30/day for breakfast - their breakfast isn't worth $5/day. The ice machine on our floor was broken. As it turned out, the cleaning people were more friendly than anyone else working there. Keep driving!

I travel frequently. In the past two weeks I have stayed at four different hotels. Rarely do I post a review except in cases of extreme excellence of severe disappointment. Unfortunately, this is a case of severe disappointment. The hotel is located in an area of Alexandria that is unconducive to walking, yet the shuttle bus was never available as it seemed always to be going somewhere else. If you plan on using this service for more then airport transportation that you pre-secheduled, don't. The rooms are supposed to have refrigerators and microwaves in them, but they do not. You have to request them upon checking in, and you will get them only if they are available. Ours arrived at 1130 pm, and it was not clean. The price of breakfast, is outrageous, at $13 and there is nothing on the buffet that is not provided free at other Alexandria hotels, like the Best Western. The free high speed internet would not allow us to log in to any chat programs, and was a hassel as we kept having to sign up for a daily free trial.

Finally after this experience, the highlight of which, was the shower which did have great pressure, we were bullied by the front desk. When we asked for a receipt of our stay, they were unable to provide us one, which our company requires for reimbursement. Though some of the fault does lie with Expedia in this matter, it could have been handled more gracefully. My partner who was trying to be diplomatic in the matter was getting yelled at by the manager, who we asked several times to stop yelling at us.
Finally we left with nothing to show that we stayed in the hotel.

I have never had this problem at another Marriot property and will say I am shocked at this locations unwillingness to work with us to reach a compromise. Needless to say, I will submit this account and our company will rethink our usage of these properties.

Stayed here 3 nights for a conference; booked two rooms for myself and a coworker. The hotel and rooms were well maintained. Front desk service was top notch: they were very helpful and polite. The free shuttle service was an incredible asset for my colleague and I, as we did not have a car. It's about a two minute ride from the hotel and the Eisenhower Avenue Metro station, as well as Ted's Montana Grill, San Antonio Grill, AMC Theater, Ruby Tuesday, Starbucks, and Cold Stone Creamery (all in a center across from station).

The breakfast buffet did not disappoint, although I felt it to be a little expensive. The hotel has a "Market" that has candy, snacks, and bottled beverages for purchase. The free warm cookies at the front desk were a pleasant treat.

Also a treat: the free high speed internet in the rooms (wired) and lobby (wireless) worked perfectly. An ethernet cable is provided in your room closet.

Just one bit of advice to those light sleepers out there: I'd request a room away from the center of the hotel, as the ice machine/vending is adjacent to the elevators, and can be rather noisy.

I highly recommend this hotel for business travelers, especially those who need to get into the city but do not have a car. Also recommended for couples wanting to save some money on the room and use the Metro to get around if sightseeing in D.C.

Metro fare from Eisenhower Ave. to the airport is about two dollars and is a ten minute ride.

It was everything I expected from a Marriott property.

Very pleasant stay with three generations in two connecting rooms. Internet met business needs, daughter used exercise room on top floor (with view), small grandchildren found food they liked at breakfast. Front desk very helpful with directions. Rates, for Washington area, were reasonable.
