“Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

This is a good place to stay if you want to see Washington D.C. without having to pay the earth for staying in the city. They will shuttle you for free to the metro and you have a 20 minute ride to the tourist area downtown. They will also shuttle you to old town Alexandria where there are many restaurants to eat locally. We did not have to wait longer than 10 minutes for the shuttle to pick us up. It is a typical Hampton Inn. The rooms are clean and they provide a decent breakfast.

We stayed at this hotel in 2010 and July 2013. Clean, convenient, staff was very attentive. Shuttle staff did a great job. A nice "base of operations" for a vacation to the sites in DC and Alexandria. Will book rooms again for a future visit. For the money and convenience, you won't go wrong with this Hamption Inn.

The hotel is located near Richmond Highway and there is no nearby restaurants or shops. You have to use a car to get around or the free hotel shuttle to go to the metro (goes with one shift to the Mall) or downtown Alexandria. The rooms are not very big and the beds are quite small for two persons. Old A/C with no temperature regulation. There is a nice pool area (only open in the afternoon) and a medium fitness room. A big advantage is that you can wash clothes in the small guest laundry. Free Wifi and parking. The breakfast is fair, but all utensils, cups and plates are disposable! It seems like a very big waste of ressources.

Were on a family trip to DC area and stopped in Alexandria for 2 days. Great city even though it's really just a suburb of DC - feels like miles away! Fine hotel for the money. Paid with points. Great flexibility with shuttle to Old Town makes it easy to get there with no car. Breakfast pretty average. Gym good with free weights. Parking easy. Staff were ok, no worries there. Good location heading south to Mt Vernon.

Fortunately It was right for the price.

A huge "shout out" to Mustaffa, the shuttle driver from airport and metro station. Extremely polite and very helpful in asnwering my questions.

I booked this location in error as I had planned to book the Hampton Inn on King Street. Fortunately, it all worked out, however, it would have been nice to have food spots within in walking distance. Had to go into Old Alexandria via shuttle to grab something to eat--even if it was just fast food. LOVED LOVED LOVED Mr. Bobbie. He was kind, gentle and always an enjoyable conversation about the little tidbits of information about old towne that you don't get in a travel guide.

The shuttle to the Metro was quick and easy- never much of a wait, especially in the morning. Again Mustaffa was always ready to roll in the morning. However, make sure you READ THE DIRECTIONS regarding Metro pricing. VERY VERY PRICEY, especially if you don't do a PASS.

Breakfast was good--had all the basics---changing it slightly every morning.

Only downfalls was the lobby and hallways were very warm (however it was over 100 with heat index). I was also slightly disappointed room upkeep---tub did not drain well. They attempted to fix it by simply removing drain cover (which still did not do the trick). They also forgot pillow cases on 2 of the 4 pillows--could have been oversight, however, had to call TWICE to get someone to bring us the missing pillowcases.

stay was uneventful---not the best but certainly not the worst...Word of Advice: The Metro ride into the city is somewhat lengthy---a good 30-40 minutes depending on where you are going, especially with a transfer to different line..... Think I might stay closer to city next time. For the extra $$ amt you spend on hotel room you save it on Metro fare and time wasted sitting on subway.

Room Tip: it buts up to a busy interchange, however, you don't hear any traffic noise.

We stayed here when visiting DC because they had good prices and advertised a shuttle to the Metro and Old Town.

The room is fantastic. We stayed in a large room with two queen beds and a fold out couch. More than enough room for our family of four.

The pool is ok but hours were a bit odd during the week because of the lifeguard schedule.

Breakfast is typical Hampton fare. Busy during late morning but more than enough food for everyone.

The shuttle is the downside. They do NOT have the capacity to handle their peak times. We had to wait for three shuttles before we could get back to the hotel one night and for two shuttles the next night. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU WILL USE THE SHUTTLE AND HAVE A SCHEDULE.

Personally, next time I will probably stay at one of the properties on King Street in Old Town instead.

Excellent location to both Washington D.C. and Old Town Alexandria. Nice Rooms, Excellent Staff. This is the 4th time I have stayed here and I will continue! Hilda the General Manager is outstanding. They have a shuttle that will pick you up at the airport or take you to Downtown Old Town Alexandria, Etc.
