“Thumbs Up!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2009

I prefer to provide the facts first then my review so fellow travelers can make an educated decision. I hope my review helps in your decision.

DATE: 30 July 2009
COST: $65 USD discount booking (The normal rate might be $160 USD +)
BOOKING: Hotwire.
INCLUDED AMMENITIES ADVERTISED: Free Internet, non-smoking.
FALSE PROMISES: None. Everything advertised was supplied.
STAFF: Excellent. Friendly.
NEIGHBORHOOD: Medium awareness. No criminal activity observed in front of property. Low income housing nearby but the hotel is on the edge of the tourist zone of downtown Alexandria, VA.
LOCATION TO TOURIST SITES: Walking distance a couple blocks to King Street area for restaurants/pubs, and attractions in downtown Alexandria, VA.
TRIPADVISOR UTILIZED PRIOR TO BOOKING: Yes, but booking through Hotwire you can’t choose which hotel you will get. I was happy to find out I got this one.
CHECK-IN/OUT: Too easy.

REVIEW: I recommend this hotel if you’re on vacation or business. It is very clean and the lobby has a restaurant and bar. There is also a café-coffee shop. Parking is charged but there is plenty of free parking on the street out front. The front desk reported the neighborhood is safe. King Street of downtown Alexandria is walking distance by a few blocks which could take ten minutes.

THE GOOD: Location, price on Hotwire, cleanliness, professional staff, lobby bar, grocery across the street, lots of free parking on street out front, location, convention and conference facility located inside hotel. The gym and pool were nice, and there is a coin-op laundry located on the 4th floor. There is a small business center located off the lobby.

THE BAD: The room did not have a refrigerator, the a/c struggled and the room was a bit muggy upon check-in. The free wireless Internet had a very weak signal which forced me to reconfigure the room with the desk to gain a better signal...that did not work. Some rooms had microwave ovens placed outside the room on the floor in the hallway…Maybe they were broken? The gym closes at 10 p.m. and is locked.

Overall the room was very comfortable after I got the a/c working right, and the maids did not attempt once to disturb me in the morning. I would stay here again and would recommend this hotel to friends. If I can sleep in without maids bothering me, then I usally rate the hotel a little better on the comfort and value scale. This hotel scored a homerun! The maids were in the hasllway but never knocked or parked a cart in front of my room.

TIP-1: Priority Club members get extended check-out at 2 p.m. so take advantage of that free program. You can sign up online in the room and then call the front desk for late check-out.

TIP-2: The hotel charges for parking in the garage, but you might be able to find a free spot out front on the street which does not have any time limits.

TIP-3: I saved a lot of money booking on Hotwire, the only problem is you can’t select the hotel by name.

Happy travels. I hope this was helpful.

it is not the nicest hotel, but since the remodel it is ok. The rooms are clean and if you get one on the courtyard side they are very quite. the parking is tight in the garage but managable. I stay here about 4-5 times a year and the only problem I've had is the fire alarm has gone off two times, and it takes forever to get it shut back off. ( never has been a fire). It is better than staying in DC and its close to everything ( in the middle of all the stuff to do) I have not taken my family but plan to in the future, it has a nice pool and out of the husle and busle of down town.

Hotel was very clean and in good condition. Rooms are a nice size. Elevators were a little slow. The hotel stated a $15 fee for parking, but they never charged us. The kids enjoyed the indoor pool.

It is in a decent location. About a 10 minute walk to the center of Old Town in one direction and a 10 minute walk to the Metro in the other direction. The Metro makes it easy to get into downtown DC and Reagan International.

I would not recommend breakfast at the hotel. The food was not that good. There are plenty of diners in the area plus a Giant Foodmart across the street.

We stayed here for my husbands Navy reunion. The hotel was very nice. I have to say the prices at the bar were expensive, but we had our own hospitality room and that took care of that. The staff was nice and helpful. The rooms were large and quiet. The food was just okay for breakfast and the the banquet food was not the greatest. Did not use the pool, but some said the hot tub was nice. Good area, could walk to a few restaurants, and they had a shuttle to King street where there's lots and lots of shopping and eateries. Giant grocery store across the street and a liquor store next to the Giant. We had a group rate for the room, and some of our meals were included in the price of the room. Parking is $15. per night, but they waved that for the reunion. Shuttle to the Metro if you want to visit DC and all the wonderful museums and such.

I stayed here for a weekend getaway and had a wonderful experience. The staff couldn't be nicer, even after I lost my key, not once, but twice. The room was clean with a comfortable bed and flat screen tv. The wireless internet was free and fast. The towels in the bathroom were fluffy and the soaps etc. provided were of good quality. Keep in mind that this is not a 5 star hotel, so you are going to get what you pay for. I got a rate of $87 a night with AAA membership. What a deal!

This hotel was really nice. The beds were comfy, rooms were clean. Apparently, the hotel had just completed some renovations. Everything looked really new. The lobby was really nice and the restaurant was pretty casual. The hotel is one of the few with free wi-fi internet and free shuttle to/from the airport. The hotel also has a shuttle that leaves every hour to take you to/from the Old Town area. Also, there is a grocery store right across the way, which was very helpful during the length of my stay.

The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout the stay. I really enjoyed the hotel. The only lacking was that the room service menu did not have many selections, but I believe that they are slowly adding more choices.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2008

We booked our stay for three days over Thanksgiving weekend 2008 and chose this hotel primarily because of its pet friendly policy. The hotel is located in a quiet, primarily residential area of Old Town and is about 8 blocks from the King Street shopping district. There are restaurants and a grocery store within walking distance. The king room we had was large and comfortably furnished. The only negative is that the bathroom is on the small side. The hotel is very quiet - hallways are wide and well lit. Pet policy on the website said that there was a $25 per day charge - when we checked in, a flat fee of $50 was charged for our 3 day stay. There is also a $15 per day parking fee for the covered parking garage. All this was OK because at $100 per day, this hotel was a good bargain for a metropolitan area. I'd recommend this hotel for business or vacation, even if you don't require pet friendly accommodations.

  • Liked — Large room with very comfortable bed
  • Disliked — Smallish bathroom
