“Great customer service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2012

Really enjoyed the bar/lounge area. Food was good and inexpensive. Bill the barkeep was excellent. Never had to ask for a refill!

This is a fairly OK place to stay, area is nice and appears safe at night.

Pros: Pet friendly

The manager is pretty cool

The rooms are just *OK (read below)

The room cleaners are nice folks - quite helpful

Bill at the bar is cool as well, very nice guy and is a good Bar Keep. Menu is very limited at the in-house restaurant, a bit over priced for what one gets.

Cons: (This is a biggie!!) $ 20.00 A NIGHT TO PARK CAR IN THE GARAGE, YES EVERY NIGHT OF YOUR STAY. That would be PER car so add that to any bill you would get, even with a rental. So if you have two cars like we did add 280 a week to the bill. The parking outside the hotel is 2hrs during the day. The below ground parking has 6'2 clearance, so if your car or SUV is any taller better find another place to stay cozzzz you are out of luck even if you want to pay. Every spot says COMPACT which means you take up 1.5 spaces when your using it.

The gym is a DISASTER, the female that works there is less that pleasing not raising her head, removing her earphones or stopping her texting barrage when someone comes in. She just kind of moves around a bit in the chair - kind of a bad vibe.
The gym equipment is at least 100 years old, like 5 VERY OLD weight machines that came from a 1960s gym, and they are not maintained. All the machines are hard pulls from no maintenance and there are a few treadmills as well. Bottom line don't go to the dungeon until they upgrade EVERYTHING including the gate keeper. Everything in there is junk basically.

The gym facilities are a serious need for people living a healthy lifestyle, this hotel's grade is F- you would get better equipment at the YMCA.

*OK about the room, the bathroom had a big void in the sheet rock cut out around the ceiling fire extinguisher port and the shower is tiny. There was another antique artifact in the kitchen that "looked" like a microwave but was 100 years old JUNK. The sink drained very slow and the faucet shot water all over the place from calcium build up (I fixed that!). There was also a BIG water stain and wrinkled material on the ceiling over the kitchenette. Looked like there was a water leak above at one time and they just painted over the damage. This alone drops the value of this place by 10%.

The TV reception SUCKED very hazy, and they had 10 or so bunny ears era TV stations there were NO FRILLS here.
No DVD player anywhere to be found BUT they had a Nintendo built into the wall that was just another vintage POS that should have been removed Looooong ago. Who plays 1990s Nintendo video games like Super Mario Bros?? Should I have asked where the penny arcade was.

Oh the remote was broken as well. :)

The beds were nice and the room, halls, and lobby were very clean!

All this place has to do is UPDATE; get some DVD players, clear up that reception, offer more than just a few analog TV stations, fix the "little" things that go wrong and look wrong in the rooms like WATER STAINS, OLD BROKEN APPLIANCES, REPLACE VINTAGE GYM EQUIPMENT, AND PUT THE PHONE BY THE BED, and you might up some of these poor reviews.

It's the small details that kill you not the fluffy beds...

Room Tip: Ask for a large room with a micro and refrig. All domestic animals are welcome Leave the pythons at...

If you are looking for a place close to King Street and other Old Town attractions, this wasn't it. It also isn't particularly close to a safe Metro station that can be used at night. Upon check-in, I was told that I should ride the airport shuttle back to DCA and take the Metro from there. But the shuttle shares its transportation with another hotel, and one one rainy night, I was dropped off across the street from the hotel - not even under the awning of the hotel itself.
Service was generally pleasant.
The room was comfortable, and large, but the hotel is old and is beginning to show its age. There was only shampoo - no conditioner.
Upon check-in the television was not working.
One odd thing - there was no phone by the bed - so for a wake up call, you had to get up and answer the phone at the desk across the room.
The vending machines on three floors were always sold out, and the hallways had a musty odor.

Stayed 3 nights nd found ths property to be very nice, check-in to checkout. Rate included a full buffet breakfast. Located in a quaint and quiet area so if you're looking for 24/7 excitement this is NOTthe place for you. Property in what felt to bek a safe area, even for female business travelers traveling alone. Easily within walking distance from King Street District.

Room Tip: Rooms in vicinity of conference area very quiet.

Stayed here one night in Oct. Can't think of anything to say really. It was fairly clean, easy to park, restaurant was closed. No ambiance whatsoever...

Do not eat at the Royal Restaurant nearby as the staff suggests - it sucks! Best place around was TJ Stones which is one block away.

Booked this hotel for a weekend (Oct 21-Oct 23). Was looking for a cheap hotel that was nearby DC and came across this one. Was running late for check-in, but called and was told that it would be fine. The beds were nicely made up (loved the pillow choices) and the furniture was clean. The flat screen tv was a plus. There was a wedding going on at the hotel but it did not interfere with my stay. I booked a double room on the 2nd floor. The carpet had a small stain and the paint inside the bath tub was chipped but it didn't upset me. The hotel website said that parking was $20/night but was only charged $10/night (possible AAA discount). There is a Giants across the street and many restaurants and stores nearby on Richmond Highway. The drive to DC is 15-20 minutes. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: close to DC grocery store across the street

Nice rooms clean pizza in small retaurant terrible. If you drive a pickup truck you wont be able to park in inside garage. Even outside is difficult, spacing small. I hate hotels that charge you to park your car($20 a night).
