A little sign beside the old mill caught our eyes as we drove by. GRINDING TODAY. At the first opportunity we made a u-turn and went back to the mill. What a treat! We were the only ones there. The incredibly friendly, patient and informative miller walked us through the whole process from where the gigantic grinding stones are cut to the finished bag of ground corn. Walking down under the gigantic stones and seeing how the gears work when the water is diverted to giant water wheel was fascinating. It's a wonderful piece of history that was fully functioning until 1971. As we were winding down our little tour a family with kids stopped in. It was fun to see his passion for the history of the old mill as he started telling the story to the kids. He was especially good with the kids, making sure they could see things, answering their questions. It's a highly recommended 30 minute stop.
