We had a very nice stay at the Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast. Orquida and Dan were very welcoming hosts that made us feel right at home in their beautiful historic home. Breakfast was delicious and we really appreciated the early-morning coffee before breakfast. Our room was very comfortable and had its own bathroom, which was small, but adequate. Also enjoyed the outdoor porch areas for reading and listening to the birds.

The Nelson County area also provides lots of activities which we enjoyed and more dining options than we expected. We especially liked the Blue Mountain Brewery right up the road - very neat place.

For my girlfriend’s birthday, I booked the Goodwin Room for 2 nights as part of a package. It was a surprise weekend away and I have to say that Afton Mountain met and exceeded our expectations. We arrived late after a much longer than anticipated drive from DC and Dan and Orquida, the owners, couldn’t have been nicer or more understanding.

Even though it was dark by the time we arrived, one could tell that the house and grounds were quite charming. Waiting inside the room was a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Orquida’s breakfasts were delicious and the conversations with others who were staying at the Bed and Breakfast were quite interesting.

Since we were close enough to Charlottesville, we spent time at UVA, Monticello and area wineries. They were quite happy to offer suggestions on dinner locations and we ended up seeing both of them at the restaurant that we chose. After dinner, we enjoyed one of the comfortable common areas by relaxing over a game of checkers.

Thank you Dan and Orquida for making our stay such a great experience outside of the hustle and bustle of DC’s Beltway. We have already recommended it to some of our friends!

“Quiet & quaint - a perfect combination!”

Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast

We had a lovely stay in the Mornington Room for 1 night this weekend. The location is great - away from the hustle & bustle, but within a few miles of vineyards and restaurants. The Inn was very well-maintained and luxurious, but not uncomfortably refined. We felt comfortable sitting and reading in the common areas and enjoyed the great selection of local magazines & books, as well as music. Breakfast was wonderfully prepared by Orquida who graciously accomodated our dietary preferences. And, oh her cookies are just too good!
The Mornington Room is well-described on the B&B's website, but we would add that it overlooks both the mountains, pool, and gardens, as well as the parking lot (although we were not disturbed by this). The whirlpool was a great way to unwind after a long drive.
Our only negative is that the B&B is located on a relatively major roadway, and we would have preferred something on an out-of-the-way side road. It is, however, set back a good distance and the trees mitigate noise from the passing cars. We could not hear the traffic at all, but our room was in the back of the house. Regardless, we would certainly stay here again!

“Looking Glass Room was quite nice!”

We stayed 2 nights in the Looking Glass Room. The owners, Dan and Orquida were wonderful hosts -- full of information and advice on where to go, eat, etc. The breakfasts were flavorful and filling. Their dog, Bailey, was friendly, although he is restricted to their living quarters. Our room was tastefully decorated and comfortable. There was hot water, tea and cocoa available at any hour, and freshly baked cookies in the afternoon and evening. The common areas were both comfortable and inviting.
