“Never Disappointing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

I have been on several of these food tours and have thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them. Each tour is new and different. I would recommend doing every single one of these.

“VIP ticket to ride!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

I have been on several of these tours. I moved to the Abingdon area about 4 years ago. This region is supportive of local farms and some of the restaurants reflect that dedication. The trolley tour highlights these "Rooted in Appalachia" restaurants, wineries and breweries by giving the guests a tour and taste at about 5 establishments per tour. Sometimes, the establishments have local artists displaying their exhibits, so there is a bonus to possibly enjoy an art show when you tour, as well. Whether you are a local or a tourist visiting Abingdon, you will feel like you are "in" on an exclusive, VIP trip--the chefs address the guests and explain their creations, how they are a part of Rooted in Appalachia and are open to questions. As a local, I have been to some of the places, but never had the opportunity to meet the chefs. The food and beverages are always so delicious and you can taste the pride of this community in their dedication to "farm to fork." I feel privileged to live here and always sign up for these tours quickly because they tend to sell out fast. The tour director chooses different places each time, so the trolley ride is always an adventure! I have met some quality folks on these tours whom I now recognize around town. It's also such a nice feeling to meet tourists on the trolley--to share their happiness and disbelief that a tour like this even exists in Appalachia. Tastes of the Town Tours never disappoints--you will be introduced to new friends, food, cocktails and chefs, all while riding on a beautiful and clean trolley. I have done both winter and summer tours and the trolley is covered when it is cold and open when it is warm, so you are never uncomfortable while traveling. I highly recommend the trolley tour--it's a unique way to dine out with friends and family, and you always have a designated driver during the tour! If you consider the price of the tour, the transportation and all the tastings you will experience in one evening--it really doesn't get any better than this!
