“Southern Fried Funeral”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

The Barter Theatre has done it once again! We just saw a production of A Southern Fried Funeral and it was hilarious. We enjoy all of the productions we see at the Barter and this one was no exception. Locals as well as people from far and wide come to see plays at this nationally known theatre where actors like Gregory Peck got their start. If you are in the area, do not miss the opportunity to see a production on their main stage or their two smaller venues. Abingdon is a charming, historic town and makes for a great get away with the bonus of this theatre.

“Caelum non animum mutant qui trans mare currunt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

The MOST amazing theater I've ever been to! I used to live in this town during high school and would go all the time. I moved away for college and work but now live about 2.5 hours away. I make monthly trips to see plays here! I've started taking people with me and everyone loves it!! I highly recommend this theater to all ages!

Always a cut above the rest, "Southern Fried Funeral" was a "hoot and a half." Great show and thanks to the staff for a wonderful theatre experience.

“Fun for the Family”

Every play that we have seen at the Barter Theatre has been very good. It is very enjoyable and entertaining. Live actors kept our attention and was a welcomed break from just going to a movie.

“One of Virginia's Most Important Cultural Organizations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

If you're traveling on I-81 you should take in a show at this theatre with its unique history. Most if the year you have four shows to choose from on two stages. Actors are, largely, Actors Equity members and the scene design and other technical aspects of the theatre are superior. You may not care for a particular show or an actor or two but Barter has produced amazing theatre for over 75 years.
