“Nicer Room, Service and Place for Puppies than Expected!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2010

We had a great first trip to Abingdon thanks to choosing this HIE. Had read some good reviews so took the leap even though I never thought of the HI as a destination place to stay. Eventthough they need to get some green up in that parking lot big time, the room and the service were great! Like that our pets were welcomed. We kept saying, "the staff is great!" They gave us treats for our puppies when we got there, so we didn't feel like we had to hide them...one of our dogs is 100 lbs. and she got compliments from the staff on how pretty she was.
The room reminded me of a much more expensive hotel that we stayed in this year but could not have taken our pets.
The Wildflour Bakery is great down the road and the front desk was right to mention this to us.
We will def!! stay here again next year when we come back for what will be an annual trip. Had so much fun on the Virginia Creeper Trail and at the Barter Theater! Great Trip. Thanks Holiday Inn Express! In the end it was worth the price to be able to take our pets, but I do hope we can get it for less than $150 next time. $100 would feel better.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms and hotel was clean, pool was clean and well maintained. Location is convenient and close to the interstate. Breakfast was good and plentiful with a very kind hostess. Rates are very expensive, I was able to save $35 a night by using the rate I got from roomsaver.com. My biggest concern is that it advertises itself and is a "pet friendly" motel. Our room was on the second floor and before even exiting the elevator I heard dogs barking. I asked the clerk for a room on the third floor which pets are prohibited and he was gracious in doing this. Other reviews have mentioned a strong chemical smell throughout the motel, which I believe is a flee/tick spray. Overall the stay was a positive experience and as far as a "pet friendly" motel, it is probably as good as it gets, but I think I would probably stay somewhere else.

Thanks to Holiday Inn Express for being a very nice pet friendly hotel. We come here once or twice a year for the Creeper Trail. We always travel with our Maltese or we don't travel, so I am always grateful when a hotel is pet friendly. The $25 pet fee is per stay, which is typical. One floor of the hotel is reserved for people who don't have pets, so those who are allergic to pets or just don't like them, have a floor to themselves. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The rooms are a little noisy. If someone is talking in the hallway, you can clearly hear them. Otherwise our stay has always been pleasant.

Stayed here for one night. Pet fee is around $25 but reviews for this hotel were better than the other two in the area that accept pets so we end up staying in this one. It was a good decision since the beds were really comfortable and the room was reasonably clean plus there was a hot breakfast.

Terribly smelly, rooms not so clean. Outrageous prices. Management not friendly or hospitable. Do yourself a favor and take another exit or two. You'll be glad you did.

My husband and I spent 2 nights here when we were sightseeing and hiking in the area. As has been our experience with HIE, the room was excellent as was the service and breakfast. The cost was reasonable after our military discount. An added bonus was getting the end room on the 1st floor which (as another reviewer noted) was extremely roomy and comfortable. Special kudos to the man who checked us in and provided us with a notebook of local restaurant menus--very helpful--and the wonderful lady who was overseeing the breakfast. She was very concientious in checking with guests, keeping items stocked and even gave us some travel tips for the area. Altogether a very comfortable and pleasant stay!

This was a very nice Holiday Inn Express. I would compare the room to a mid-level Sheraton and was pleasantly surprised by the entire hotel. I was there for work and even though the hotel was at full capacity for a car racing event, the staff were very friendly and attentive.

The breakfast buffet was also suprisingly good. We had omelets and fruit one day and eggs with biscuits another day.

If in the area, I would highly recommend eating at Willa Jack's in the lovely downtown area. The food and atmosphere were quite good. http://www.willajacks.com/
