“A True Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

The Martha Washington Hotel was just perfection, from the beautifully appointed room and bath, to the snacks provided in room. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The salt water pool was pristine, as were the spa and gym. The evening port served on the porch was a lovely touch. We can highly recommend this hotel. (They included a continental breakfast, which was coffee, muffins, cake and yogurt.)

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the mansion rooms, beautifully appointed and spacious.

My wife and I came to Abingdon for our anniversary. We stayed two nights at the Martha Washington and loved every minute of it. From the spacious room to the amazing pool and spa, to finishing off the day with a night cap on the porch. An amazing place - would recommend to anyone.

This was a weekend get away for us and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Barter Theater has been on our bucket list and we booked a show separately through the theater website. Our room was located on the fourth floor and even with the elevator, we had to maneuver the stairs. Not a problem for us at all. The staff was friendly, and gave us enough attention without smothering us. Our room was large and quiet. Saturday afternoon, we enjoyed cocktails on the front porch and had a lovely server that made sure we had plenty of adult beverages. The grab and go breakfast each day was a nice option for us and since it is complimentary, we chose to forgo the full service breakfast. The yogurt, pastries, fruit, coffee and juice was sufficient for us. During the evening, the library is a nice escape to read and enjoy the complimentary port that the hotel offers. Nice stay for a couple and we will return.

Room Tip: If you have a disability or trouble with stairs, I would request a room that is accessible by elevat...

We stayed overnight at The Martha and found everything just perfect! Our room, 219, was enormous, clean, and very, very comfortable. The decor of the entire Inn is beautiful and the staff polite, helpful, and friendly. We will definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone.

My wife and I were traveling to another city in Virginia and we just decided to inquire about a room. We were greeted at the front desk by Amelia, whom remembered us from our August 2012 stay. Amelia was very very kind to us and and was so helpful and professional. The room was very clean and comfortable. From the bellmen Robert, Knox and Kevin and the others, to the food and beverage manager Keith and to the entire staff, Kathryn and I thank for making our 20th anniversary so nice.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money on the suite, you will be glad you did.

My wife and I were on our way to another city in Virginia, and we stopped at The Martha just to inquire about a room. We met Amelia, whom we knew briefly from our previous stay last year. We were remembered and treated very very kindly . As a matter of fact we ended up staying our entire vacation here. From the bellmans Robert, Knox and Kevin and the food and beverage manager Keith. and the entire staff, we thank you so very much for your premier service.

Room Tip: Spend the extra $$$ and get the suite.

We spent Father's Day weekend in Abingdon VA and stayed at the Martha. It was our first visit and we LOVE this place. The hotel is walking distance to everything. It was so relaxing. Loved sitting on the front porch, the decor, the rooms were very comfortable, very friendly place. Great saltwater pool and hot tubs. Beautiful koi pond. We had breakfast at the hotel and it was delicious. We had hoped to book some spa treatments but they were all booked, which was the only disappointment. The Barter Theatre is right across the street. It was our first trip to the Barter and really enjoyed it. I don't think there are any bad seats in the theatre, if you are trying to decide where to sit. Had dinner at The Tavern. OMG, it was wonderful. We also walked to the Farmers Market, one of the larger Farmers Markets I have seen and there are lots of antique shops within walking distance. We loved being able to walk everywhere. We will definitely go back to Abingdon and we will stay at the Martha. Yes, it is a little pricey and there are plenty of other places you can stay in Abingdon but you get what you pay for and it was money well-spent, in my opinion..
