Alta is the best as far as I can tell from all the resorts in the Salt Lake City area. It definitely is the place the locals go to. We get there once a year and also ski at Brighton. For those once a year skiers, I suggest getting your ski legs in shape at Brighton for one or two days, then hit Alta. No snowboards are allowed, which is nice, but be aware, the skiers here are very good and most of them are doing the black runs. I am a solid blue run skier and I find Alta just right for that. I like the runs off of the Sugarloaf and Supreme lifts the best. The other side of the mountain where the WIldcat lift is, doesn't get as much sun, so if there is no fresh snow, it will be crunchy and icy until the afternoon.
