“WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

I would be here ALL DAY trying to describe this hotel, or the time I had!! On a scale of 1 to 10, i give it a 20!! Very lavish, and a lot of history...VERY NICE staff, and soooo worth the money...my old man and I booked the heritage suite for our anniversary, and WE LOVED IT!! i have 100's of pics, but they dont really do this place any justice. I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this beautiful hotel. Valet was always courteous about getting our car, and the desk ladies on the night shift allowed me to view 2 additional rooms...Needless to say, WE WILL BE GOING BACK!! Team this up with a visit downtown 6th St. to the MUSEUM OF THE WEIRD, and a DINNER AT EDDIE V'S, and u have the beginning of a magical time!!

Room Tip: The Heritage Suite, The LBJ Suite, and The Cattle Baron's Suite are BEAUTIFUL!!

Definitely would stay at this historic property again. It was a pleasure coming downstairs to the bar to have dinner while listening to live music. We saw some wonderful sights in Austin but our experience at this hotel was actually one of the highlights of our trip!

We had one night in Austin to see Concert and enjoy a great meal while staying in this fabulous historic hotel. We paid top dollar for a regular room, small but nice. Top as in $500. Beware! We did not get into our room until after 5pm w luggage as it was not ready. That put a rush on the rest of our evening. It was a significant celebration for birthday and anniversary (as in 40 years married). Management's response was to offer a 40 year anniversary dinner in their coffee shop. Next night in San Antonio's Menger Hotel made the Driskill look like the political wipes they've become. Too bad for a gorgeous building.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

Definitely would stay here again. Everything you expect a hotel to be. I don't even get this kind of service at the Hiltons!

If you want to eat at the Grill make sure you make reservations way in advanced!

Room Tip: No swimming pool that I was aware of, no spa but plenty in the area... Any room here would be phenom...

Great historic property--nice old rooms and quiet given the general noise on the street. Terrific location for getting around the city. But the staff seemed on the indifferent side. Had to "interrupt" valet staff to get my car taken and the front desk staff was not particularly friendly or helpful. Problems with the bill were not handled as graciously as one would hope..especially when the error are clearly theirs (e.g. double charges).

Very few times do I highlight food in a hotel- it has to be either exceptional or exceed expectations for that level of a hotel. The quality of the food both exceed my expectations and was exceptional for a Texas hotel. All the food snobs at my meeting were also remarking how good the food was. Staying at the hotel is a little exciting if you are superstitious. You can search online to here all the stories of this supposed haunted hotel. The front desk will even give you a document that review these hauntings. Many people take tours of the 4th floor which is supposedly haunted and also room 525. The rooms are definitely older looking but they are decorated elegantlly. Beds are comfortable. The meeting rooms were the worst part. If you are there on business, I recommend wearing layers and bringing a heavy winter coat. The temperature will fluctuate between stuffy and hot to teeth-chattering ice-cold in a matter of 15 minutes. Despite these temperature fluctuations, however, the food and history of the hotel still make this a "very good" property.

Room Tip: Choose room 525 if you want the haunted room.

We stayed at The Driskill Hotel for 4 days in Jan 2013. The Driskill is a beautiful hotel with friendly staff and comfortable accommodations. We didn't care for having to valet our car but it was either that or park it in a parking garage blocks away. We learned to call down for our car at least 10 mins before we were actually ready for it, this saved us standing around and waiting. Our room was in the tower that we were told by the Bellboy, was built in the 1930's. The room was smaller by today's standards but it was very comfortable and met our needs. In our room was a desk/chair, side chair and side table, bed/bedside tables, cabinet that held the mini bar with tv on top. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have EVER slept in. It was heavenly! The sink vanity and bathroom area were small also, but nice. It was nice having a full size hair dryer to use instead of the standard compact (attached to the wall) hair dryer most establishments provide. The phone beside the toilet was an "interesting" fixture. We did miss having a coffee maker in the room. We didnt notice issues with sound unless someone was in the hall talking.

We spent a few hrs in the bar one evening having drinks. The bar area feels cozy and intimate although its open and is a heavy traffic area (to the elevator). While in the bar that evening we decided to order dinner (burgers & fries) instead of going out. The food came from the grill and it was absolutely delicious. I ordered room service once during our stay and again, the food was delicious. The service at this hotel is wonderful, we were very impressed by the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. We would definitely consider staying here again if in the area.
