I stay here often, as it is right next door to the customer site. It is on par with the average Marriott hotel. Rooms are clean, and are roomier than the average hotel room (especially the huge handicapped rooms.) It is nice if you have to work in the area, but I prefer downtown hotels to get the real Austin feel.

Service here is so-so. Room service (breakfast) is on-time about 1/2 of the time. They were 25 minutes late when I last ordered it.

The big issue here is the large groups that stay here. They can be noisy, especially because the courtyard inside the hotel is roofed, so everything echoes. It is especially loud for the rooms that face the courtyard. If the group is a local group, you can forget about parking (even valet.) I had to park on the side of the main road about 1/2 mile away once.

I would recommend this hotel for business, but just make sure you don't get an interior room if you are a light sleeper. Go downtown for a getaway in Austin so you can enjoy the culture easier.

Restaurant food is good, service was good as well. I agree with the other posters that the little coffee bar in the courtyard is way overpriced.

The hotel is situated near many restaurants from chain to original, including Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, TGI Fridays, ZTejas, and more.

“WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER”

I was staying on business for over 3 months and the hotel not only kicked our group out on a 1 day notice - we were constantly having issues with service, laundry, and maid service. Stay downtown and stay away from this hotel. Even the bill was mis-stated. This was the worst experience for our group and I would recommend staying away.

“Have never had a better experience”

I have styed in hotels all over the world and all over the United States and have never had a better experience. Allthough my room was delayed on arrival the front desk took my cell phone number and called me while I was shopping across the street at the famous Ausitn Aboretum. The delay turned out to be in my best interest because upon arrival in my room I found chocolate covered strawberries and a note containing their deepest apologies. The remainder of my three days in the hotel followed with curteous porters, wait staff, houskeepers, and incredible food to boot. The Hotel was all dressed up fpr the holidays and we even had a personal visit from Santa (which my 4 year old found very special). I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. The beds are so comfy I am considering switching my home mattress to match. Thank-you so much Rennaissance Austin...you were exactly what I have always dreamed a hotel could be...

“Oh so comfortable rooms”

Just got back from staying there for a conference. This place is very comfortable, the beds are incredible and the rooms quiet. I stayed a couple extra days and overlapped with a middle school convention of kids which packed the hotel - still the rooms where quiet. There is some chain shopping (Crate & Barrel and the like) and restaurants (Red Robin) with in easy strolling distance, but it is a long ways from downtown especially in Austin traffic. The bar staff is excellent, but the fancy in-hotel restaurant was boring. The wi-fi internet access is an extra $10 and kind of slow at times.

“Comfortable Beds--Excellent hotel”

Renaissance Austin Hotel

Nov 10, 2006

I recently stayed in the Renaissance Austin for a convention that was being held there. It was very pleasant! The pillowtop mattresses were extremely comfortable, and the room was so quiet that I slept better than I usually do at home. Everything was scrupulously clean. The exercise room was spotless, well-equipped, and well-maintained. As a woman traveling alone and arriving by car late at night, I was grateful for the valet parking. Note to previous poster: Some travelers who are neither fat nor stupid use valet parking because they are concerned about personal safety. Banderas, the on-site restaurant, was somewhat pricey, but that is expected in a hotel like this. The food was very tasty and the staff was very attentive. As previous posters have mentioned, there are stores and restaurants within easy walking distance. If you are looking for the "Austin experience," and you want quick access to Sixth Street, UT, etc., this is probably not the hotel for you. On the other hand, if you are a corporate traveler who is looking for cleanliness, comfort, attentive and polite staff, I recommend this hotel!
