“Nice facility but over-priced considering its quirks”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2012

The hotel is laid out with an extremely large open floor in the middle at the lobby level and rooms around the outside walls up nine floors. Smaller conferences are likely to use the facility.

I found that the bar and the lounge in the open area on the lobby floor carried a lot of noise directly into the rooms, all the way up to my room on the ninth floor. The only thing buffering the noise was the room's door. So while the hotel was very effective at blocking out noise from outside the hotel, the noise from inside was a problem.

As a Marriott Rewards member, I tried using the club lounge twice, but was very disappointed by the food. One evening it was just over-heated fried something-or-nother. The breakfast was ok, but I've had a lot better at hotels one-third of the rate.

Although I didn't use the gym, a number of colleagues reported that it was small, stuffy, and hot. Apparently there was a line for the treadmills. Cleaning materials were unavailable to sanitize the equipment.

Bottom line: The pricing for rooms here is pretty high compared to what you get.

This hotel has a special characteristic of a hollow construction, where the rooms make a square with a indoors space in the middle of the building, with a cool glass ceiling. Result is a bright view of the hotel main floor. I've stayed there before and the rooms are very quiet! Both times I was on a busyness trip attending to a conference, and the meeting rooms were very comfortable. BTW the food is GREAT!!!

Room Tip: If you like to see what is going on, I suggest 237: it is right on top of the kiosk/bar.

Stayed on the concierge floor. First time in years I have had to pay for wireless. I had a do not disturb on my door and the knocks started by 9am.
Beautiful decor. Great shopping around the hotel but just an uncaring attitude.

This is my third or fourth time at the hotel and the service has been excellent every time. Transportation from the airport to hotel only costs $19 with SuperShuttle. Dinning options are within walking distance. The scenary is wonderful. 4 great reasons to consider this location for your next business conference/meeting. However, the restaurant is very costly considering there are excellent dinning options surrounding the location. If this were a pleasure trip, I would be annoyed with a room facing the lobby on the 2nd floor. You can hear the sound system from the conference rooms and any lobby activity. Another discouraging fact is the parking lot. In bad weather conditions there is no protection (not even a covering) from the weather on your way to the garage. The parking lot is poorly constructed so some spaces are unreasonably close. This is may seem minimal for personal travel but for a business conference it was critical. Other than these few issues, I love this location!

I only had one night here but enjoyed it thoroughly. My room was on the 5th floor and looked onto the atrium. Noise level was not a problem. Went to a restaurant (Z Tejas) which was within walking distance and enjoyed it as well. I highly recommend this hotel.

I think this is my third stay at the Renaissance Austin Hotel and I have honestly enjoyed each one. Weather was more forgiving this time and I was finally able to explore some of the surrounding area on foot. Delightful! Beautiful surroundings, and lots of shopping and restaurants in just walking distance. Get in your car and there is much more, still. The service continues to be a high point here, and the hotel is still in great shape. I wish the WiFi was not an extra charge, and I could not sleep well (though my wife had no trouble.) Rooms are not well sound-proofed but my neighbors kept the same hours I did and this was not an issue.

I stayed there for a business conference in January 2012 and was very impressed with both comfort and friendliness of the employees. The restaurant however was very expensive ($24 for a breakfast sandwich, juice and coffee - Really?) Room service was actually a penny cheaper for Breakfast, and it was a meat/eggs/hashbrowns with Juice and coffee. I thought that was weird. Beds were comfortable, there is other food choices nearby (Don't miss Rudy's BBQ!!) at better prices, at least for lunch and dinner. Indoor pool and spa are a nice touch as well. You are a long ways from downtown/airport though, so cab fare is not cheap. Overall its a nice property, just expensive to eat at.

Room Tip: West side has a view of the roof of the parking garage try for south or east rooms for a better view
