“Great Stay In Austin”

Radisson Hotel and Suites Austin

May 19, 2008

I just got back from a 4 night stay at the Radisson, I was there for the annual American Payroll Association Congress. I couldn't get the conference rate for my first night so I booked it separately through AAA and was upgraded to a suite for free upon arrival. The suite was really nice, it had a king-sized Sleep Number bed with a nice view of Town Lake. I had to move to a different room after the first night but the room was still really nice with a king-sized Sleep Number bed and a much nicer view of the lake. This was my first time to Texas and boy was it HOT!!! Each night at dusk we went to the bridge on the lake to see the bats come out (apparently, it's an Austin tradition). Austin has North America's largest population of bats at 1.5 million (this is according to the locals). It was quite an amazing sight!!! Will definitely return with the hubby to enjoy all the clubs and bars that I wasn't able to visit since I was working.

“Perfect location, accommodating staff”

Radisson Hotel and Suites Austin

May 12, 2008

We were in Austin for my nephew's wedding and this hotel was recommended to us in the invitation. I got a great rate through Expedia as we booked 5 weeks early. For the price that we paid ($135/night tx incl.) we found this hotel to be wonderful. I don't think I would have been as happy if I paid $180+ like the other out-of-towners at the wedding did. Liked Starbucks and TGIF's on site, bonus. Don't bother with the breakfast buffet at TGIF, wayyy overpriced and they put out the bare minimum in options and food quality. We walked out shaking our heads, and we are pretty easy to please. Regular menu for the rest of the day is typical Friday's, though. Restaurant staff are nice.
Suites are a little outdated but very clean and large. Housekeeping does a great job. Loved the sleep# bed. Front desk and concierge and management very helpful. Great location. Just short of three-star, but as long as you score a decent price, it offers you enough to be satisfied.

I have honestly never been so dissatisfied with a hotel stay in my life. I paid $280 for a two room suite. It did have two rooms... which couldn't have been bigger than 12x15 each. I was supposed to have a lake view, or a view of downtown. I had a view of a parking ramp. The furniture was very cheap and the rooms haven't been updated since 1990 at best. The toilet didn't work, there was no information about the hotel or any visitor information in my room, and my Sleep Number control didn't work.

I insisted on moving to another room the following morning since I got in late, and they said, "Oh, you have one of the small suites." They moved me into another "small suite" (that at least had a view of the lake) until a larger one (which I had paid for) was available. Well, the wireless internet didn't work in that room. The person at the front desk was unbelievably worthless and said, "It's working fine for everyone else. We don't have anything to do with the internet service... here's the 800 number." After wasting 2 hours trying to trouble shoot the problem, I brought my laptop down to the lobby and it worked fine, so it was just that room that didn't have coverage. I would have contacted Expedia and changed hotels, but I had already wasted 1/2 a day of my "vacation" dealing with this crap.

They finally moved me into the "normal" suite. At least it was large, which you'd expect... but still very "cheap" in appearance and quality. The ONLY thing I enjoyed about the hotel was the Sleep Number bed (the one that actually worked) and the location.

I'm not sure if it had to do with booking the room through Expedia, or what, but I was treated horribly and not so much as an apology of any kind. And to top it off, they charged me $10 extra per day for the Internet service! I'm not a fussy person, but when you pay almost $300 a night, you should DEFINITELY expect more than what I got. Avoid if at all possible and stay at one of the newer hotels nearby. (Hyatt, Embassy Suites are comprably priced and HAVE to be better than the Radisson.)

“Rather Decent”

Radisson Hotel and Suites Austin

Apr 11, 2008

The hotel has a great location next to the city trails (bike, run) and the bat bridge. As well, it is right downtown and within walking distance of of 6th street bars/restaurants.

The decor is decent overall. The lobby is nice and they have an in house Friday's and Starbucks. The Friday's bar was not typical; there was a lot of lighting due to the patio exterior glass walls that view out over the river.

Note: there is no indoor pool as the hotel.com site said. They only have an outdoor pool.... and no hot tub. ;(

The best thing about the hotel is noted in my first paragraph. The worst is that you are told NOT to park on the first 3 floors of the hotel's connected garage - that's only for valet. OK. So, if you are lucky enough to get the 4th floor then you have to take an elevator down, cross through the lobby (50 yards) to the other elevators that take you up to your room. Jeesh!

“Good Hotel, Rude Staff”

Radisson Hotel and Suites Austin

Bridge City, Texas

The hotel was lovely. When we went into the lobby, on late Saturday afternoon, they had 2 great live musicians playing in the lobby. Our friends who waited for us before they checked in didn't mind waiting because of the music. The man who waited on us at the front desk was nice until he checked our reservations and noticed we'd made them through travelocity. He immediately became rude and treated us rudely the rest of the time we were there. The hotel was not full, by any means, yet we were given horrible views of a dirty rooftop below us- coincidence? Who knows. Anyway, the accomodations were fine, no complaints about the rooms. But we approached the desk about 4 times during our stay (checking in, asking about valet, one other time, and checking out) and the same guy was rude to us the entire time! It was enough to make us not want to go back. Also, they had an Applebee's inside the hotel and that's where you go get breakfast. Sounds great until you look at the buffet prices! For the cereal, toast, oatmeal & fruit buffet- it was $9.95 and for that plus anything else (eggs, sausage, waffles, etc.) it was 12.95! The food was great, but one plate of food for 12.95? Wow! My friend wanted to eat a banana and a danish and was going to have to pay the $9.95- so she just didn't eat! Anyway- after we checked out and got the same rude treatment (I couldn't figure out why we always got the same guy!) we were walking out and I decided to stop and find out his name. I went to the desk and asked a woman if I could please have his name. She said, "Oh you mean (his name), the manager?" I was shocked!! I can't believe a manager would treat people the way he did. Maybe he will read this and treat others better than we were treated.
