I just returned from Lakeway Inn where I attended a conference. The hotel accomodations were just OK. I would compare the hotel to a Holiday Inn -- definately not worth the price of the rooms. I have never written a review of a hotel, but I thought that what I have to say is so unusual that other people should know about it.
My collegues and I had a very strange experience at this hotel that I would not care to repeat. After our conference, we (three women and a man) went to the hotel bar for a drink. There were other members of our group there watching the Astros game. As we were leaving the hotel to get to the bar, we noticed a scantily clad, tattoo covered woman standing with a man immediately outside the hotel entrance. She began to sing loudly and inapporpiately as we were walking away. We thought it strange, but made our way to the bar.
After sitting in the bar (nothing to write home about with truly terrible service) for about 10 minutes, who should walk in the door but this woman (obviously a prostitute) and her pimp.
She again began to sing -- this time the National Anthem, even though the game was half over. We decided that she was stoned, and we expected the hotel managment to ask her to leave. Not so. She then approched the male member of our group, introduced herself and began to stroke his hands and arms in front of all of us. He politely rebuffed her bold advances, but she would not leave until I told her that our friend had three women with him, and we were not interested in her solicitation -- thanks.
She did leave briefly, but then returned to the bar to harrass other members of our conference -- all older, quite distinguished men who were also obviously quite uncomfortable with her inappropriate behavior.
As I was watching this unfold, I noticed that the bartender was actually assisting this woman and her pimp. In fact, she began to order drinks for everyone in the bar, and the bartender dutifully took her unwanted drinks to different tables. When he came to our table with a bottle of cheap champagne and four glasses "from the lady at the bar," I told him that was inappropriate, and why had security not been called? He was extremely rude, and stated that he did not know who this woman was with, and so on.
I would think it would be obvious that a drunk/stoned woman with too much make-up and her bare belly and breasts hanging out of a hoochie-mama outfit would not be with a bunch of suits who were staying at the hotel.
I also noticed that one of the hotel managers came into the bar during this time, saw this woman and her actions, and left the area. I initially thought that he might be calling security, but no such luck.
The woman then changed into a bikini top and a sarong and came back to the bar. She walked back to our table and asked if we liked the wine that she sent us. When we said "no thanks," the bartender came up to her, put his arm around her, and told her in a snotty tone of voice (directed towards us, not her) to "not bother these people, dear."
We left the bar soon after that. On our way back to our rooms we ran into the manager who had been in the bar. My friend had not seen him there (her back was to him when he came in), and she politely complained about "the woman of the paint" who was harrassing us. The manager said that he would take care of it. We ended up just going back to our respective rooms.
The more I think about it, the more it seems to me that the hotel staff were in full knowledge and cooperation with this pimp.
Unless entertainment in the red light district is your opinion of fun, I would not recommend this hotel.

The guest behaving erratically was a recently discharged hospital patient suffering from bipolar disorder whose husband had just passed away, according to her family members who contacted Lakeway Inn after she was asked to leave the hotel after this incident. Without knowing her medical condition, management made every attempt to accommodate her and her small children, until her inappropriate interactions with other guests made this impossible. We apologize for any inconvenience to the other patrons.
