My husband & I wanted a weekend getaway within 3 hrs drive of our home, someplace that offered a variety of activities come rain or shine. This place fit the bill. We planned to use the spa if weather wasn't good, but the weather was excellent, so we took advantage of the complimentary happy hour 5-6 pm each day (drinks & hors d'oeuvres free) with wonderful views of the lake from inside & out on their balconied terrace. The breakfast buffet was excellent as were our dinners at their restaurant. (The lamb chops were some of the best!) The tri-level adult infinity pool with swim-up bar was VERY loud on Saturday & swarming with 20-to-40-somethings who were utilizing the bar to the max. The loudness was not so much from the guests as from the music emanating from the bar, so we found it quieter by the sports pool (who would've thought?) Drink & meal service at the pool was excellent as was the service in the restaurant & everywhere else on the property. The water slide was not working, supposedly malfunctioned the morning of our arrival, so no one could use it. Most kids were in the kiddie pools & didn't seem to mind since the water fountains were working or they could play with water toys & floats in the sports pool. Not having the water slide didn't seem to bother anyone except 1 small brat of a child who needed more discipline than mommy was administering. Our balconied room with lake views was spotless on arrival & kept very clean throughout our stay. Some minor infractions (slightly worn towels, slightly worn carpet, sheets not tucked in well) did not warrant mentioning since the pluses of our stay far outnumbered the negatives. Yes, patronizing other restaurants & bars in the area requires at least a 10-20 min. drive, but everything we wanted was right here at the resort, so we didn't leave the premises until checkout, except for our sail. The whole point of a relaxing stay is to relax, & that's what we did. I pre-arranged a sunset sail cruise on Lake Travis with Texas Sailing, & their offices are located right at the resort, so that made inquiries & meeting up with our captain easy. The spa looked inviting, but since the weather was perfect, relaxing by & in the sports pool was all we needed in addition to our sail on the lake. We are non-smokers & I am allergic to cigarette smoke, so I appreciated the non-smoking policy except for in designated outdoor locations which I avoided. (Altho -- we got a few wafts of MaryJane smoke coming from a nearby balcony when we were out on our own balcony. Since this is the Austin area, we actually expected this, so it "completed" our "Austin experience.") We don't usually spend time at U.S. resorts (particularly big chains) because we prefer a more local experience & also do more international travel than U.S., but for a 3-day getaway just 3 hrs from our home, this was an excellent choice. Not a 5-star, but they don't claim to be. One suggestion: please install individual safes in the rooms. We don't like to store valuables in a central desk safe, so we had to bring all valuables with us wherever we went.....even to the pool.
Upper balconied rooms have better views & are quieter.
