March is busy in Austin and we were happy to get any hotel at all with only one week's notice. However, we were quite pleased with the location, cleanliness, and price after searching many hotel chains nearby and finding them all full. We wanted near I-35 and near UT. We were pleased with the restaurants nearby as well (Pappadeaux). We will be traveling to Austin to see our granddaughter again, and will check out the La Quinta again.

Disgusting and far below what was once 'all new rooms.'

I checked into this inn on Christmas Eve after another member in my party had already arrived and secured a room. First, I noticed this is a ground floor high traffic room near the stairs. As soon as I shut the entry door, I noticed grime from dirty hands on the back of the door accumulated over time. I didn't take too kindly to that, and as I walked into the dressing area I noticed burns from cigarette butts that had been allowed to scorch the counter top. As I stepped into the tub/toilet area, I noticed more burns into the edge of the acrylic bathtub from cigarette burns. This is supposed to be a non-smoking room. I opened my laptop and fumbled around long enough to determine the Internet wasn't going to surf. I called the desk and spoke to a well-informed young man who suspected the entire network in the hotel may be down. He instructed me to call him immediately if I had more trouble. I went on to eat dinner, and upon return found the internet still not working. When I called back to the desk shift change had taken place, and a young lady was working. She claimed no knowledge of how the network worked or it's operational status. When she attempted to give me the trouble reporting number for their ISP and asked me to call them, I blew a gasket. When I protested she proceeded to respond to me in a hostile and sarcastic manner, and failed miserably at making me feel guilty for insisting they fix their problems. I packed my bags immediately and proceeded to the nearest similarly classed room from another company.

  • Liked — Hated all of it - unacceptable at minimum
  • Disliked — Desk clerk asking me to do her work
  • Tips/Secrets: — Run, do not walk, to another property nearby. Don't hang around this place!

I stayed for two nights after getting a very good rate at orbitz. First night wasn't good - although the room was clean and in good overall condition, I was put in a smoking room despite having requested nonsmoking. The smell was enough that I ended up with a sore throat and the front desk was barely apologetic, claiming the full house conditions that led to this assignment.

However, the staff the next morning were helpful and accomodating; they gave me the first available nonsmoking room. The tub in the 2nd room didn't look good - bit of rust and ugly residue from a long ago nonslip surface - but all was clean and the room was comfy with no trace of smokers. Staff in the evening next day were also friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was typical packaged continental, improved by everything being fresh, a toaster for the bagels, and hard boiled eggs for some protein. Location just under I-35 meant some highway noise but very convenient, and I could walk to several restaurants.

This hotel is off of the freeway, and near a mall. There is a steak place in walking distance, and many in driving distance. The rooms are very cozy. The parking lot is very secure, and the grounds are videotaped. The only drawback is the breakfast. Not that big seclections.

I have stayed here twice in the last two years and both times it has been a good experience.
The rooms are quite large and very clean. There are 2 or 3 nice restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The only negative is the average continental breakfast.
