Great hotel, lowsy 'Business Plan' rate

Great, spacious hotel with an amazing, open center and cool glass elevators. My major complaint is I signed up for the "business plan" rate, and they STILL charge you for WiFi. I hate being charged for wifi anywhere... but the business plan doesn't include it? Apparently, the "business plan" rate only gets you free Continental breakfast and Local/800 Calls (probably not worth the extra $20). This is dumb, as every business person I know needs Internet connectivity.

The service was great, especially the wait staff during the breakfast. The continental breakfast buffet was very nice; much nicer than your typical free breakfast (only "free" as I got the business plan rate).

The location is convenient. I had a great view of the water, and it's nice to be able to walk right up to 6th (I was there during SXSW).

Finally, I thought the room was well decorated and stylish. I'd stay there again, despite the (lame) extra charge for Internet service.

  • Liked — The open, airy lobby - you don't see many buildings with such cool, open spaces.
  • Disliked — I hate having to pay for Internet access

I stayed here with a friend for two nights in early May. I got a rate of $113 (plus tax) per night via Priceline. I am surprised by the negative reviews as I thought it was lovely, and I am a fairly discriminating traveler.

Check-in was smooth, and they honored the request I had made for a non-smoking room with two beds (I didn't detect any "attitude" about being a Priceline reservation). I was on the 10th floor, and the room was nice. The beds were super comfortable, and the a/c worked well. We had a partial lake view. I had no issue with noise from the atrium.

Bathroom amenities were good, but not as good as the Omni (where I stayed one night before moving to the Hyatt). We requested extra water glasses and a shower cap, and housekeeping delivered them pretty promptly.

The young concierge staff was helpful any time we asked a question, and we did have a few regarding directions, bus schedules, restaurants, etc.

Personally I didn't like the lobby decor (again, I'd have to give the Omni the slight edge on this), but it was not that important!

The hotel is definitely walking distance to town. Anyone who says that it isn't is either lazy or didn't bother to find out how to go. It's a little annoying to walk through the parking lot, but after that you just walk right up Congress. There's cabs for the lazy, and there are plenty of buses going up and down Congress. Not to mention that the Hyatt is REALLY close to the famous bat bridge (which we went to -- creepy but kind of neat).

All in all, this was a fine hotel. I'd give the Omni a very slight edge in location and decor, but it's a really slight edge. I'd definitely return, particularly at the price I paid!

We just got back from a night's stay here. The location is nice and close to the Town Lake trails. The rooms have been remodeled but one thing I didn't like was the option of being a king or 2 DOUBLE beds. I much prefer rooms with 2 queens. I ordered a cappichino with some Bailey's at the bar and was charged $10! Little pricey.
Overall the stay was nice but I think the next time I'll try another hotel.

Upside - they accepted our priceline.com $125/night bid on a $250/night room. They try hard to please, at least verbally if not with their follow through. And the hotel has been nicely updated.

Downside - tiny rooms and you cannot upgrade, all rooms are the same tiny size. No fitted sheets! This is a sign for me that they care more about their housekeeping than their guests. I will maintain that no hotel can be a four star hotel without sheets like I would at least have in my home.
They say they will bring, for example, the rollaway bed. But it takes 3 phone calls to actually make it happen ...... (a few instances like this happened). The room service menu is extremely limited. If I had paid full price for this room I would have felt ripped off.
As it is, it was a little better than ok.

We stayed at the Hyatt for one night at the end of December. Upon check in we were given a room near the elevator, which we thought could be quite noisy at night. We immediately requested a change and the girl at the front desk was very helpful and switched our room. We
were on a high floor with a great view overlooking the lake! The room
was very nice, flat screen tv, huge window, and comfortable bed. We would definitely stay here again!
