We love to stay at Hampton Inns because of their consistent quality. We were disappointed with this one - it's just not up to par with other Hampton Inns at which we've stayed.

Here are the pros and cons:
Pros-
-Easy access to the highway
-Clean room
-Helpful service staff (we asked for a port-a-crib for our baby and someone brought it up promptly and then returned with a flat sheet a few minutes later)
-Good breakfast

Cons-
-Desk clerk was not very friendly or helpful (we asked where there was a playground in the area for our kids to let off some steam and he looked at me like I was asking him how to get to Mars)
-Air conditioning in the room was not working properly - it either had to be on full blast (freezing) or off completely (stuffy).
-The hotel website and materials in the room said there was a Chili's restaurant next door -- it is closed and is now a daycare. Part of the reason we stayed at this particular hotel was the proximity to decent food. There is no restaurant onsite or within walking distance to this hotel, so we had to pack up our kids to go out for dinner.

I suppose this hotel would be good for business travelers, but it wasn't the best for a family with small kids. I will still keep Hampton on my list, but not this one.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn North for three nights. The room was quiet, quite clean, and the usual Hampton Inn decor. We checked in and were called immediately after we got to our room that they wanted to move us to another room because this room was booked the next night. We had one free night from Hilton points. I am not sure what the difference was between the two rooms. I like to take baths and there was not a plug so they had to bring one up. The breakfast was fine but in this hotel, the stations were extremely spread out. They had one Internet computer which was quite fast and was often available which was nice. Our third day, we came back to the room and it not been made up at 3:30. We left money each day in hopes of more efficient room make up. The second day, the dirty linens were left on a table. I called the desk and left the linens in the hallway which they retrieved. I also found a long black hair in the bathroom that did not belong to either my husband or me.
Except for the hair, the front desk was aware of these things.

“Not Quite Up to Hampton Standards”

Hampton Inn Austin - North (I-35 & Highway 183)

I have come to expect a certain level of quality at the Hampton Inn brand. Though this hotel was not horrible, given the cost, they are definitely not living up to the Hampton name. Beds were not really well upgraded, AC units were in poor repair, they have mixed smoking / non smoking floors, parking lot too small, and the breakfast area is severely lacking in space. At 7am people are camped out in all kinds of unsuitable spaces trying to find somewhere to eat.

That being said, the staff was friendly and seemed to try. I think that this hotel is just a bit old and can not really live up to expectations. I recommend spending the extra $7 per night and staying at the one on Mopac and Braker.

Hampton's are really pretty highly priced in the marketplace, thus my expectation of their quality. This hotel probably would have been on the higher end of the "old Hampton" but is not up to the new standards.

This inn is set into a particularly inviting wooded area surrounded by greenery and trees. Even though it sits at the corner of the NAFTA interstate highway and a major state highway, no traffic noise was noticed. Breakfast included the standard cold cereals and sweet breads, with an added touch of warm biscuits, sausage gravy, and pre-fabricated scrambled eggs portions that resemble a hockey puck , but tasted good. There was no shortages or running out of a breakfast item. For the rate the neighborhood will bear, the property is definitely a good choice, and I would return there without question. There is a Chili's restaurant in the parking lot, and an 24-hour IHOP within one mile. We had a minor room problem with the climate control, and the staff responded immediately to exchange the room with an identical one.

This hotel looks like it has been recently remodeled. The carpet and decor was very cheery and modern. Rooms were clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. Hotel was very quiet with accomodating and friendly staff. Nice free breakfast is provided.

The hotel is located at the Interchange of I35 and US Hwy 183 in north Austin with convenience access to major attractions. It is located directly next to a Chili's restaurant separated by a little creek.

We will definitely stay here again!
