“Thanksgiving weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

Great accomodation, except no bath tub; I was in the mood for a bath. Food and service was excellent. The room and other areas were very clean. This is a smaller Embassy; the pool was half size but with a full size spa. Nice 1 mile walk to 6th St.

I stayed at this hotel for Thanksgiving, 2012. This was our third time staying here, so I think it's about time I post a review!

We love this hotel for our 4-person family - the suites are big and comfortable, and furnishings are post-renovation snazzy. During this stay we visited a relation at the Four Seasons. Our suite was more than twice as big as their room and our furnishings were just as nice. (granted, their view was a lot better). The bathroom has new fixtures and the shower has a nice, luxurious feeling.

The breakfast is extensive and includes made-to-order omelettes and pancakes by a fun chef named Jonnie Rice - he is a gem, I hope the hotel appreciates him! A big staff works hard to clear tables and keep the masses fed and happy. It was nice that they gave us weekend breakfast hours on both Thanksgiving day and the Friday after.

Parking is a bit far away and the elevator to the parking lot takes forever. It would be better if hotel guests could park on the 1st or 2nd floor. We parked on the street when we could and even paid for street parking in addition to the $15/day we were paying for hotel parking.

Our kids love the pool, which is small but pleasant and good for the little ones. I also used the business center to print our boarding passes and it was very easy.

The hotel gets a ding from five stars to four stars because we had some issues with the housekeeping. When we opened the pull-out couch my young daughter discovered a disgusting item of intimate personal trash inside there - MAJOR YUCK! We mentioned this to the desk but were not offered any small gift of compensation. Even a small coupon or future upgrade would have been appropriate, and I think the manager should have done that. Secondly, we were only given a single non-fitted sheet for the pull-out bed. (I prefer to have both a bottom and top sheet). We requested an extra sheet the first night but then housekeeping took it away. Why would you take away a sheet and not replace it? Seems like an obvious thing. And there were also tiny ants in the bathroom (which I don't mind -- it's better than some toxic bug-killer). These were not huge problems but taken together they do tarnish my enthusiasm.

One last thing that people should know is that the pull-out couch is approximately the size of a double bed, not a queen. No problem for us but could feel crowded for two large adults.

Despite the minor issues, we definitely would recommend this hotel and we will be back again, the next time we're in Austin.

This hotel has a lot going for it. Easy access to downtown, free breakfast (at least when we were there), and updated rooms for a dated hotel. Some of the negatives include terrible views, and paying for internet access. Really guys, please don't nickle and dime us on this, it leaves a bad impression, and I would choose another equivalent hotel given a choice.

The location is terrific. We had an easy time visiting family and friends in all parts of Austin. Located at the foot of the Ann Richards Bridge it is an easy, pleasant walk to downtown. It is Situated on Ladybird Johnson Lake with its extensive walking and biking paths making daily strolls possible. The building is classic early 80's style and the lobby is dated. Our suite was recently renovated in hip, classic, modern decor. Very comfortable and large. Staff was helpful and friendly and quick to respond to our requests. Complimentary hot breakfast features an omelet station staffed by a terrific cook with lots of personality. Wifi access is not free nor is parking. (Our parking was comped without our having to ask.)

The hotel is beautiful at first look but after staying a few days, I've noticed many shortcomings. I was given one of the end suites with both rooms having windows facing outside, except the views are terrible. The biggest problem was the infestation of ants in the bathroom. They were the small ants that you wouldn't notice at first, but there was quite a lot. The parking garage is an annoying walk around the back of the building. You also have to park on level 3 and above, and it is very dark and sketchy. Eventually, as a female, I paid for the valet parking. Because the parking garage is around the back of the street, the valet always took a long time to get the car to the lobby. The reception is always short staffed. It always takes a while before someone answers, both in person and on the phone. Their service was also not great. The receptionists were never happy, they looked annoyed and seemed to hate their job. The sheets also had weird stains on them. The climate control isn't great. The wifi is passable.

There are good things too. The rooms are huge; they're two room suites. The fitness center is very nice. It has 5 cardio machines and lots of weights. The breakfast was nice; there's a chef that makes omelets for everyone and it comes with potatoes and meat. There's a lot of yogurt, fruit, bread, oatmeal and drinks. The location is good, an ok walk to downtown across the bridge.

Room Tip: Corner suites are huge with windows facing outside.

stayed here for both pleasure and business for a couple of days. The business portion was meetings at the Radisson across Bat Bridge. Very easy walk, and only 10 minutes at a leisurely pace. Breakfast and two room suites are the best reasons to stay at Embassy Suites. This hotel is a short drive from the airport, and and a couple of restaurants are right around the corner. Riverside Drive is half a block away, and within a couple of miles there are numerous fast food restaurants. The Lion's Municipal Golf Course is a couple of miles from the hotel and accepts walk ons. Good location, Good hotel.

The hotel needs some updating. Gives the appearance of dark and dingy but it is clean. Rooms are ok. the hotel is a couple blocks off of action. Restaurants are several blocks away from hotel. Happy hour and breakfast are ok. Guy who makes breakfast is great and makes the start of the day with a smile.
