Eh. This hotel didn't have anything wrong with it per se, but I wasn't a huge fan. The place is grand in theory: a 2-room suite, a big atrium, free breakfast, etc. -- all of the standard Embassy Suites stuff. In practice, however, this property felt old. It had to be one of the earliest Embassy Suites, because it still had that sort of Spanish-architectural style that the earliest properties had. Except that renovations had attempted to mask that Spanish style -- but hadn't masked it completely, which made for sort of an odd feel to the place.
My room was acceptable -- clean, functional internet, etc. -- but didn't feel very elevated. The bathroom felt very cramped. The bed was clean, but the linens felt as if they'd seen slightly better days. All of the rooms have French doors as the main door, and windows on either side of those French doors. Since the hotel is an indoor atrium, I didn't feel unsafe with this arrangement, but it's definitely unusual to have your hotel room's main door be a French door! (It did have curtains that totally covered it, so there was privacy, but it also felt weird to pull a curtain over the door to your room.)
The hotel's other features were what you'd except -- pretty good breakfast, decent business center (computers were a little slow, but free), fine fitness center. Room service was prompt and, while certainly not gourmet, was hot and tasted fine.
Service was fine. Check-in was speedy and welcoming. The room type preferences I have on file with Hilton HHonors were not granted, which I always find irritating as a top-level member of the Hilton program, but to her credit the front desk staffer noted this and apologized for not having a room better suited to my preferences. I appreciated that she noticed, and the room she put me in was just fine.
Overall, it was OK, but I wasn't extremely impressed. Next time business brings me back to this part of Austin, this hotel would be on the list of possibilities, but I'd certainly look at other properties in the area, too.
